About me and my therapy practice
AVAILABILITY UPDATE: 16/12/24 - Some appointments available.
Choosing a therapist can be hard work! Lets make this a little easier; I work face to face in Sheffield, and online across the UK and internationally.
In a safe, confidential environment we can explore together the things that have brought you to counselling, in ways that suit you best.
I work with a wide range of issues and believe that therapy should be holistic (working with the whole person), personal to you and supported by evidence and good practice.
I have experience of working in schools, universities, charities and with adults of all ages and with a wide range of different needs. I am also aware of the therapeutic adaptations needed to work with clients from a range of neurodiverse backgrounds; people with learning disabilities or autism, whether they have a diagnosis or not.
If you would like to ask any questions about how I work, or how we might work together, please get in touch; it is important that whoever you choose to work with you feel comfortable and able to make the big step of starting working with a therapist.
I am currently able to accept Allianz, Aviva, AXA, Vitality and WPA insurance, if you would like to pay all or part of your therapy using an insurer, please check the terms of your cover with them.
I have more information available about how and where I work on my website - www.sheffieldcounsellor.net
Practice description
I work face to face in Sheffield.
I work online with people who prefer online working, or need online working to accommodate their needs.
Some people need to switch between online and face to face working throughout a course of therapy; this is OK. We will manage this together.
If a regular weekly session is difficult, for example, if you work shifts, we will try to accommodate this. Flexibility is important to reflect how 21st century life works.
I work in a general practice; this means I have a broad set of experience and training that enables me to work with most presenting issues. If you have a concern the issue that brings you to therapy might not be appropriate for us to work together on, do get in touch. I will let you know if I am unable to help, and where appropriate, signpost to a better fit of service or therapist.
I have a specialism in working with neuro-divergent clients. This means I have undertaken training, read and worked on research, and have experience of, working with neuro-divergent clients. My supervision is also built to reflect this specialism.
My permanent office is at Harland Works John St, S2, 10 minutes walk from The Moor, near London Road and Bramall Lane.
For more information about me and my practice, you are welcome to get in touch or check my website at www.sheffieldcounsellor.net
My first session
First sessions can be a little different. I try to make a full assessment of what's happening for you, and what has brought you to counselling. This might feel strange at times; as well as practical details, like contact details, we might also talk about a broad range of things that could have impacted your mental health.
I have a blog post on my website about first sessions here - https://www.sheffieldcounsellor.net/post/faqs-what-to-expect-in-a-1st-session
