About me and my therapy practice

AVAILABILITY UPDATE: 27/3/25 - I do not currently have availability for new clients.

Choosing a therapist can be hard work. Lets make this a little easier; I work face to face in Sheffield, and online across the UK and internationally.

There are lots of reasons for seeking counselling; sometimes people come because something’s really scary, sometimes it’s ‘I’m not sure if this is OK’ or ‘I want things to change’. It can be hard to find a counsellor, and I welcome any questions that might make this easier.

I am trained as an integrative practitioner; in my practice this means blending CBT, attachment and person-centred approaches to suit your needs.

Together, we’ll work out what it is that’s bringing you, how it is you got here, and what to do about it. Sometimes this can be hard, but we’ll do everything we can to take things at the pace that works for you, in the way that works best.

2025 will be my 8th year in private practice. During this time I’ve seen many different kinds of client, with many different presenting issues. I’ve learned that no two clients are the same, and that we all need different approaches. We will build an approach designed to meet your needs.

Some clients want to meet for a fixed number of sessions, others in an open-ended approach. Both of these are OK; we can work in the way that suits you, and will get you closer to where you want to be.

I accepts clients from the following insurers: AXA, AVIVA, Vitality, WPA.

You can contact me with any questions you have before starting.

If you’d like to meet, we would arrange a first session assessment at a time that works for us both; this is 90 minutes long. I have a blog about what to expect here.

If you decide this is something you would like to continue with, we could book sessions from then onwards. We might have a regular time, or move it around to fit your needs. We regularly review out work together to make sure it’s meeting your needs.

Practice description

I work face to face in Sheffield.

I work online with people who prefer online working, or need online working to accommodate their needs.

Some people need to switch between online and face to face working throughout a course of therapy; this is OK. We will manage this together.

My practice is general; this means I am trained to work with many presenting issues, from anxiety, depression and low self-esteem, to OCD, trauma and people recovering from psychotic episodes.

I have a lot of experience of working with neurodivergent adults, and as well as additional training and research in this area, I have supervision in place that understands how neurodivergence can present in therapy and recovery.

My permanent office is at Harland Works John St, S2, 10 minutes walk from The Moor, near London Road and Bramall Lane.

For more information about me and my practice, you are welcome to get in touch or check my website at www.sheffieldcounsellor.net

My first session

First sessions can be a little different. I try to make a full assessment of what's happening for you, and what has brought you to counselling. This might feel strange at times; as well as practical details, like contact details, we might also talk about a broad range of things that could have impacted your mental health.

I have a blog post on my website about first sessions here - https://www.sheffieldcounsellor.net/post/faqs-what-to-expect-in-a-1st-session
