About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you are on this page because there is something hurtful or confusing in your present life. Is something from your past or childhood troubling you? As you acknowledge and sort through what's going on, I will support you. I am skilled, safe, and listen well. In my counselling room, perhaps over a cup of tea or coffee, you can safely say the things that are running through your mind but which you wouldn't say anywhere else. It helps having a counsellor with you when you bring these thoughts and feelings into the light.
I work privately in a dedicated annexe to my quiet home on the edge of a village in the Forest of Dean, face to face, or online, or a mix, depending on what makes sense for clients. Clients come to me personally or via employee assistance schemes. My usual fee is £50 per session but reduced fees are available if clients are on benefits.
We might meet for six to eight sessions, or longer term, as required. In the first session we will decide whether to carry on with the counselling.
My method is 'integrative’, and draws on humanistic, psychodynamic and person-centred approaches, and others as appropriate, including CBT.
If you would like more information, you are welcome to ring me to discuss how I might be able to help. If I can't answer the phone immediately, I will get back to you very soon.
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling. I am a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
I have DBS registration.
In a previous career I was an English teacher and a university lecturer in education in Bristol. Earlier qualifications are a degree in English, a PGCE, an MEd and an MPhil in language development.
Practice description
Online or face to face as appropriate. It is very quiet and private here, right by the forest, and parking is easy. If you come in-person, and that's what you'd like, I can have a cup of tea or coffee ready for you when you arrive for your sessions. That's not so easy on Zoom!
My first session
This first session is for you to see whether I can be helpful and also for me to see how we might work together if you want to carry on. Some clients come with no particular plan and may ask for help in starting. Others come with more specific ideas for this first session. Both ways work fine. I hope you find I behave like a real person!
