About me and my therapy practice
Disconnection from the world around you can bring up all sorts of uncomfortable feelings but I am here to help you to rediscover your authentic and more capable self, which may be hiding in the shadows.
No matter what stage of life you are in, finding the right person and taking those first steps may feel quite daunting, especially if you're struggling with anxiety, trauma, and a deep sense of threat, or if you're experiencing a bereavement or relationship breakdown. Confusing emotions may be evoked, you may be finding unhelpful ways to deal with stress, or you might not even really know what's causing you to feel a sense of loss, so whatever has prompted you to seek therapy, I can offer a confidential, empathetic, and non-judgmental, comfortable space to be truly listened to.
Not only will we think about your current issues, but we'll also look at what lies rooted in the past and how you cope today. By making sense of your experiences, a deeper level of awareness and self-acceptance can be found, bringing more meaning to your life and as a certified Trauma-Informed Therapist, I can support you with PTSD & CPTSD symptoms by helping you be 'here' instead of 'there', where new skills can be learned and integrated into your daily life.
Practice description
Your experience is unique, it's you in the room and this is not a 'one-size-fits-all' approach, so I offer what's best for you, and compassion and healing are at the core.
Throughout our time together, you have the choice to dip in and out from talking therapy to mindfulness, and creativity, or by using EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping) to tune into these uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, or troubling memories, where anxiety lessens, and healing and relief can be found.
My self-awareness, knowledge, and skills have developed throughout my clinical practice and I am fully trained, inclusive, and well-informed where I make a regular commitment to continual professional development, whether that be about, trauma, abuse, addiction, grief, race and culture, trauma, neurodiversity, anxiety, depression, eating disorders gender, sexuality, identity, otherness, disability, pain, CFS/ME, the menopause, there is always more to learn.
As an Accredited Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) I meet their higher standards and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice and the BACP's Online and Phone Therapy (OPT) competence framework. I also hold full professional indemnity and public liability insurance and have an up-to-date DBS certificate.
Before working as a Counsellor, my background was in the education sector working mainly in secondary school settings.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute telephone or online conversation to discuss your needs, and meeting for a 50-minute consultation will also allow you time to decide if you feel comfortable enough to continue with weekly sessions. Once agreed, we will meet on the same day and time, and go at a pace that's right for you.
I have a dedicated downstairs room with a separate entrance with one small step over the threshold. There is a toilet but unfortunately, this cannot be accessed via a wheelchair.
The first and second sessions allow us to gain a deeper understanding of your current and historic experiences and relationships, and what has brought you to therapy, while paying close attention to how comfortable you feel. I offer a free 30-minute telephone or online conversation to discuss your needs, and meeting for a 50-minute initial consultation will also allow you time to decide if you feel comfortable enough to continue with weekly sessions.
