About me and my therapy practice
You may be reading this because you are looking for some answers. I’m an experienced therapist who believes in building a warm, trusting relationship with clients by providing a confidential and non-judgmental therapeutic space. We will work collaboratively, initially looking at your current situation. You will gain insight and understanding into how this has arisen. I will support you as consider how you want to move forward, looking at different options and making new decisions so that ultimately you are able to live a more fulfilling and authentic life.
I am qualified with a Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling (based on Transactional Analysis) followed by a further two years of advanced (psychotherapy) training. T.A. is a psychotherapeutic approach for personal growth enabling people to gain a better insight into their relationship with themselves and others.
To ensure I practice ethically I have ongoing supervision, and hold memberships with BACP and UKATA. Maintaining good practice includes regular CPD - recent topics have been Understanding Nature Connectedness and Working with Climate Change Anxiety.
Practice description
I am in private practice offering sessions outdoors, online and by phone. My work covers a variety of issues; loss and bereavement, depression, relationship difficulties, climate anxiety, self-esteem and addictions (gambling). I also volunteer with the organisation Frontline 19
I am able to offer outdoor therapy sessions in a setting close to Hexham. These vary from ‘walking and talking’ to connecting at a deeper level with the natural world. Many people find it easier to share their experiences when outside and gain a fresh perspective being in a different environment. Our relationship to place is a fundamental aspect of being human.
In the past I have worked in a range of settings such as a general counselling service, an organisation supporting clients with gambling problems, a NHS hospital trust and a secondary school.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute consultation in order to understand what you are experiencing and hear what you are hoping to gain from therapy. You will get a sense of how I work and there is no obligation to continue. If we both decide to go ahead I will take a more detailed history in the first session.
Individual counselling - ideally sessions are weekly. These can be outdoors, online or by phone. Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £45.00
Relationship counselling – These sessions are online and for two people. You could be in a couple, family members or friends. This is short term therapy usually 8 or 9 sessions and on a fortnightly basis. After a free 30 minute consultation ( as above) there is an inital session which is 60 minutes and costs £60.00 during which we will discuss your aims, the boundaries within which we will work and the situation that is bringing you both to therapy. The remaining sessions are between 80 and 90 minutes and cost £75.00.
I offer concessionary rates for both individual and couples work.
