About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist in central Edinburgh.

I work both from EH1 Therapies at 4B Randolph Place, EH3 7TQ and from Blue Morpho, 26A Broughton Street, EH1 3SB. I can also see you online.

I will work with you as a whole person to support you to create a space for change and growth. It is my belief that healing is possible. Counselling and psychotherapy is one way to begin that change you are searching for. I know that you are the expert on your own life.

In listening deeply alongside asking questions, I will reflect aspects of you which may struggle to be known. It is my job to hear what makes life difficult in all its complexity. I know the importance of feeling heard and understood in relation to another. I will work to identify the resources which emerge in the work with you. This therapy will not only be about processing the hard stuff. I find that often the journey is a matter of guiding you to find your own right balance of being.

I work with a broad range of clients from those who are struggling with deep trauma to those with less complex difficulties.

I am Psychodynamically trained in the understanding of how our histories shape us and how we might find ways to reconnect with ourselves. I also work from relational, transpersonal and somatic perspectives, tailoring what is the right approach to each client. I work using a parts based model. This means that I am conscious that all times of your life matter and need to be listened to and considered by me. I work to help you clear the blockages that prevent you being grounded in your true self.

Alongside my work as a therapist I have many years of experience working in mental health and creativity.

My fee for a standard 50 Minute session is £60, at times I can offer a concession. The first session is an initial consultation for us to have a talk and find out if I am the right counsellor for you. Finding the right fit is important.

Practice description

My approach is about the whole self of my clients, listening deeply to all that is told in words, feelings and gestures. What emerges in the session and arises from the themes explored is the rich resource that will ultimately be part of your healing.

I will take a history in order to understand the particularity of your difficulties. In a sense this is the work of building a map as trust grows between us. I also am working to make sense of threads and links. I will consider what parts are speaking to us from which time of life. This helps to provide a framework of spaciousness for the thoughts that might run around in our heads.

I focus on your strengths alongside the difficulties in order to strengthen the aspects of you which manage well.

I do both short term and long term work according to the needs of my client.

My work is depth based and seeks to heal the roots of issues.

My first session

The initial consultation is 50 minutes long. In this session you will have a chance to get a feel for what I do as I describe it to you. I will also want to know why you have come and what you are looking for and will ask for a quick run through of your history to understand the context for your desire to grow and heal.

This session is standalone and I will expect to hear from you over the next week to let me know whether you would like sessions or not.

The fee is £60.
