About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited therapist, working in Edinburgh, with a long history of counselling both adults and young people.
I have worked in the mental health field all of my working life, training initially as a psychiatric nurse and have extensive experience of offering counselling to individuals experiencing emotional distress.
I offer a safe, confidential space where you can be yourself, without fear of judgement. Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings and experience . My aim is to help you voice and understand concerns, with a view to finding a way forward .
Practice description
I provide a welcoming and confidential environment where clients can air whatever is troubling them. I am able to offer support in relation to an array of difficulties and aim to give my client the experience of being attended to , of being listened to and supported whilst they give voice to whatever troubles them.
Together, I aim to build a relationship which allows you to feel secure and comfortable to explore whatever is important to you. Ultimately, I aim to help you find a way out of your distress by helping you to identify your own strengths, increase your resiliance and build self worth. This may mean looking back at your history and childhood with a view to understanding yourself better or working very much in the present ,in a focused way.
My work ranges from short term focused counselling to long term indepth therapy.
My first session
Finding a good fit when you are coming to counselling is, in my view, essential. An initial session allows us an opportunity to check our fit. This session allows a space for me to tell you a bit more about how I work, my qualifications and experience and perhaps most important the confidentiality boundaries which ensure your privacy and safety.
Our initial session allows an opportunity for us to meet up and explore what you want from your counselling ,what you hope to focus on . At this early point you may not be to be too sure where your difficulties lie, your only prompt in coming to this session, being that you just know you would like some support around how you feel. This is more that fine.
From this first introductory meeting we can decide together if you would like to come for counselling .
For this initial session I charge £25.
