About me and my therapy practice
The thing I most love about counselling is offering a space where people can be fully themselves and seeing how people transform when given this opportunity.
I began my journey as a counsellor working with clients who were struggling with addiction issues. I witnessed clients regaining their power as they felt accepted and started the process of trusting themselves again.
My approach is person-centred, which means I respect the ability within all of us to grow and develop to be who we fully are, given the right growth conditions for us to do this.
This requires a unique kind of relationship and an authentic and transparent way of communicating as the basis for self exploration.
Once you feel truly heard and accepted you can then move freely in your experience. Emotions surface, new understanding emerges and with this movement comes change, self acceptance and a deeper self knowledge that gives you more resilience to live how you truly want.
Qualifications:
Diploma in Person-Centred Therapeutic Counselling
Advanced Post Diploma in Person-Centred Couples Counselling
Accredited member of BACP (British Assoc. for Counselling..)
Person-Centred Supervision Training, Form and Freedom
Voluntary work in my local area: Caris bereavement service and CGL addiction recovery service.
I believe the wellbeing of our bodies is strongly linked to our emotional being. I have practiced Tai Chi and Qigong for many years. This helps me to be more present in myself, a vital aspect of being more present with others. I also work alongside body therapists, principally acupuncture, Alexander technique and shiatsu.
Practice description
People come and see me for many different reasons. Often there's a particular issue which is impeding day to day life such as social anxiety and loneliness; low mood or work related stress. Perhaps body image issues are affecting your confidence. So often it's the things that affect our relationships with others that can be the most painful.
It could be that you've been affected by a bullying or traumatic experience; an addiction that's taking over; a bereavement or relationship break-up that you're struggling to move beyond.
Whether it feels too big to talk about, or even too small to bother anyone with, if it's making you feel anxious or disrupting your life it may be reassuring to talk to someone who is impartial and knows how to help.
I offer a friendly and engaging space for us to work through these life challenges together. It's a wonderful thing when you reach that point of clarity and regain trust in how to move forward in a way where your needs are better met.
There's no right or wrong, no discrimination. In this space you can put yourself first and make those important steps towards feeling a greater level of comfort in yourself.
Room sessions - individual (50 mins, £75). Couples (1hr, £90). Located at Torriano Avenue, 5 minutes walk from Kentish Town underground station.
Online/telephone sessions - individual (50 mins, £70). Couples (1hr, £90). Some people prefer the flexibility of being in their home during sessions.
Outdoor sessions (1 hour) £70. Some people feel more comfortable outdoors as a therapeutic space, walking, in nature. I offer early morning sessions on Hampstead Heath. I have certain routes that I have developed over time. I'm experienced to know how to manage outdoors in therapy.
Please feel free to get in touch for an initial (free) talk to tell me about yourself and to get a sense of me and how I work. I usually identify if our timing matches first and then we can meet and work out a time for a session all being well.
My first session
As soon as we've arranged a time to meet, I'l send you a starter email with all the practical details you'll need. There is no need to prepare in advance just bring yourself and whatever you'd like to focus on and we will get started on this straight away after a quick introduction.
At the end of the session I'll check in with you to see how you found it and whether you'd like to book in another session. Typically people come and see me weekly initially to build momentum with the work and we review your needs as we go.
