About me and my therapy practice
As a Gestalt therapist, I believe we are born with the ability to be in rewarding contact with other human beings and to lead satisfying, creative lives. Along the way, things may happen that block that contact leaving us out of touch with ourselves and others. Therapy offers a safe space to do the work of reconnecting with yourself so that you can feel alive again and be able to embrace life, whatever it brings you.
Are you experiencing low mood or depression? Anxiety or panic attacks? Does life seem hollow or meaningless? Are you having problems in your personal or professional relationships? Are you feeling lost, lonely, misunderstood, unappreciated, or worthless? Have you experienced trauma or abuse, bereavement or loss? Any of these things can make everyday life difficult.
To cope, you may use alcohol or drugs, self-harm, work all the time, or be perpetually angry with yourself or others. This will compound the original problem, creating a cycle of experience that fails to resolve the issues that are blocking your contact with a full and meaningful life where you experience satisfaction, well-being, a sense of achievement and belonging.
As your therapist, I aim to build a warm respectful non-judgemental relationship with you where you can feel safe to probe and explore what is painful, overwhelming, stressful or puzzling in your life. I will support and keep you safe on your journey of self-exploration and discovery. Through dialogue and creative techniques, you will find ways of making sense of what is troubling you, enabling you to end destructive patterns and respond creatively and flexibly to life in the present.
Practice description
I work at Rose Counselling which is based on the first floor of a lovely building in the centre of Southampton. The counselling room is calm, warm and welcoming.
The room represents a physically safe space, providing a secure and confidential environment for you to express yourself freely and openly, in any way you feel comfortable, about any issues you may be dealing with. A place where you are free to talk without judgement or being afraid of offending or upsetting those closest to you, such as family, friends, or work colleagues. A place of safety, where you are able to be honest with yourself, about how situations or events affect you personally, exploring feelings and emotions that can sometimes be hard to address.
