About me and my therapy practice
Integrative counsellor for Poole and Christchurch. I offer a safe confidential environment to help you overcome the difficulties you are experiencing. My specialisms include childhood trauma, abuse and sexual violence. I also provide general counselling and support for clients struggling with stress and anger, depression and anxiety problems, panic disorders, phobias and OCD. I can offer understanding alongside evidence based tools and techniques you can use to overcome your difficulties.
My approach is integrative which means I have been trained in and can employ several theoretical approaches to help you survive the crisis, difficulty or turning point. I draw from cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic/person centred, psychodynamic, brief solution focused therapy and existential approaches to adapt the theory to each individual client. My aim is to clarify those aspects of the client’s life that cause distress, confusion or anger and that can lead to an individual to feel stuck, blocked, unfulfilled and desperate. It is through exploration and clarification that we are able to explore our options and choices, and understand and come to terms with our issues.
The core of our work together will centre on strengthening and healing your relationship with yourself. This means looking at all the levels of self rejection and self criticism that may be operating and moving into new ways of being in the world with greater levels of self acceptance and self compassion. Aspects of therapy are also practical and may involve developing new ways of relating to others, improving relationships, healing family bonds, solving problems, looking at your work life, and developing new skills which will enable you to create a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Work alongside the guidance of a trusted, accomplished professional who can objectively critique your work so you can continue to improve as a practitioner.
Resources, resources, resources–
Introducing you to the tools and sources of inspiration i use in my own work.
Professional networking-
You may not have access to other counselling professionals that can connect you – Your clinical supervisor can be a key professional connection throughout your career.
Emotional support –
According to statistics, anywhere from 21% – 67% of mental health workers experience burnout, and working in isolation is a major contributing factor. As your supervisor and fellow therapist, i get what it’s like to experience the unique struggles you may also encounter, i will be there to help you get through the tough times and provide you with a sense of camaraderie and encouragement while also challenging you to think things through.
Better outcomes for your clients –
A supportive relationship with a clinical supervisor has a positive impact on clients, providing you with a sense of trust and safety so you can feel free to explore, learn from mistakes, celebrate success, and go into sessions confident that you can provide your clients the care they need.
If you are looking for a supervisor with specific training / experience within historic childhood trauma / abuse or you deliver CBT for people with anxiety and depression, please contact me for more information.
