About me and my therapy practice
I offer sessions online, or by phone.
I offer a safe and confidential space, where I hope that once you start therapy with me, you will feel safe enough to allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to connect with what has been causing concerns.
I have been in practice for over 10 years. I work with adults and young people, mainly around loss/grief and bereavement. I understand that loss affects us all at some point in our lives. Some losses impact us more severely than others.
As well as the training I have had, I couple this with my many life experiences. So during our time of working together, I will continually draw on these areas of wisdom to help me to support you.
I offer empathy and compassion, knowing and understanding that you are the expert in your own life. Even though at this moment you may not feel like you are. I will listen attentively to your story, and be there for you and hold the space for you until you are able to hold the space for yourself. I will not be telling you what you should or should not be doing. I will listen and ask questions to clarify my understanding of what you have said. Eventually, you will start to gain clarity and understanding of yourself.
Practice description
I am a qualified Person-centred counsellor. What this means to you is I feel that you have the answers to what is or has gone off track in your life. I do not make myself the expert of your world.
I use the analogy that you are the book, and you read to me the pages from your book. Because some pages are a little blurred, you need to read them out loud, so I can hear and support you to hear and see the words clearly. This can take time because you have to learn to trust not only yourself but me as your therapist. I understand that trust develops over time, so I allow you the space to feel at ease in each session if you decide you want to work with me.
I draw not only from my training but also my life experiences to support you through whatever you bring to each session. I may ask questions to get a clearer understanding of what it is like to live in your world.
I will listen to you and offer empathy and compassion whilst I support you to untangle and gain deeper understanding of yourself.
My first session
After your initial contact, I will arrange a free 15 - minute consultation.
I will find out from you what you hope to get from therapy. I go through how I work and what you can expect the first session.
My clients inform me having, the chance to talk with me before starting a session. Gives them the opportunity to decide if they want to or can work with me. They also mentioned that it makes them feel at ease, and less anxious about starting the first session.
You also have the opportunity to ask me questions you maybe feeling anxious about.
Starting or coming back to therapy, I understand, can feel somehow a little stressful.
So please give me a call and I will try and alleviate those anxious feelings.
