About me and my therapy practice
ONLINE Counselling and Psychotherapy with Louise Teal
I am a BACP accredited, experienced Integrative Relational therapist, I provide counselling and psychotherapy online and face to face in the West Yorkshire area. I am committed to meeting the needs of the individuals I work with at emotional depth. I offer support, safety, reassurance and understanding.
Counselling can be brief and goal focused, understanding a particular issue, adjusting thinking patterns and changing behaviors. Working in a psychotherapeutic way is often longer term and works with and seeks to gain emotional insight into the self through a process of exploration.
What we learned in our early childhood and our subsequent experiences inform how we behave and conduct our lives in the here and now. Taking time to gain understanding into our thoughts and feelings and looking at beliefs founded in our history can help us make sense of how and why we are experiencing difficulties in the present. Relational theory focuses on achieving empowerment and growth through interpersonal connection, the collaborative relationship between the therapist and the client supports the process of personal growth, enabling individuals to move forward with their lives and reach greater acceptance of themselves and others.
I integrate several different forms of therapy into my practice to meet the needs of my clients. Theoretical integration involves blending different theoretical ideas and techniques, for me this includes brief solution focused therapy, relational theory, transactional analysis and contemporary theories of attachment.

I have availability currently to take on new supervisees. I work online and in person in Hebden Bridge West Yorkshire.

About me and my therapy practice
A philosophy of clinical supervision
Supervision is a form of professional mentoring to ensure appropriate standards in the counselling profession. Supervision is an opportunity for in depth reflection; a valuable way of “checking in” with a more experienced practitioner.
Supervision aims to enhance quality, increase resilience and stimulate creativity. Quality supervision helps to sustain the personal resourcefulness of counsellors to undertake the work whilst also being a space to expand and be challenged.
Supporting and ensuring that as counsellors we stay grounded, maintain professional and ethical boundaries, and develop theoretical and practical knowledge. Supervisee and supervisor work together provide effective, safe, ethical therapy for our clients.
The supervision I offer is the Process Model of Supervision - Hawkins and Shohet which observes the following;
Reflection on the content of the therapy session
Exploration of the interventions used
Exploration of the therapy process and relationships
A focus on counter-transference
A focus on parallel process
Any supervisory counter-transference
Practice description
ONLINE OR IN PERSON FROM HEBDEN BRIDGE, WEST YORKSHIRE
I offer clients relational integrative therapy with contemporary psychotherapy at its core. I facilitate clients exploration of themselves as part of a network of relationships in order to gain greater self awareness and create meaning from their past to effect positive change in the present. The psychological theories of attachment (Bowlby), object relations (Fairbairn) and self psychology (Kohut) and Clarkson's five relationships model underpin my client work.
I am trained in grief and bereavement counselling and have continued professional development training in third wave CBT inc. (ACT) acceptance and commitment therapy and (DBT) dialectical behavioral therapy, (CFT) compassion focused therapy, working with neurodiversity and integrating mindfulness and meditation practices to support emotional regulation.
I offer supervisees a strong, safe, encouraging relationship, where their autonomy is respected. An environment to learn new things and gain insights into their therapeutic work with clients. As a therapist you will be supported to make difficult decisions and motivated towards positive action. Emphasis is placed on reflection, growth and self governance.
Supervision works best when we embrace the opportunity to be open and honest, when we are able to discuss difficulties occurring with clients without blame or judgement. Being encouraged to share and unload the burden of complex and challenging work and a focus on self-care to avoid “burnout” are important aspects of supervision.
I maintain high levels of good practice for the work I supervise, ensuring the application of the ethical framework to the client work, particularly with regard to competence and professionalism, relationship building, the management of personal boundaries, any dual relationships, conflicts of interest and avoiding exploitation.
My first session
Similar to the counsellor/client relationship, the supervisee/supervisor relationship is built on trust. It is important to establish the possibility of a good relationship and a strong working alliance.
I offer all new supervisees the opportunity to meet first to get a sense of what working together might be like and to share our hopes and expectations for effective rewarding supervision. This introductory session would be free.
Supervision is charged at £60 hr, £90 for 1.5 hrs.
This is subject to change.
