About me and my therapy practice
A warm welcome to my profile!
As a BACP accredited Psychotherapist and University lecturer with over 10 years of experience, I offer a safe, professional, empathic and productive therapeutic space for individuals and couples for counselling and psychotherapy.
Having worked within the NHS, schools, addiction recovery centres, centres for young people and women, I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, dependencies, intimacy, work stress, relationship and parenting problems, among other issues.
I have extended experience working with young people.
Embarking on the journey of talking therapy can indeed feel daunting. Please rest assured that I am here to support you with a kind, empathetic approach and a commitment to non-judgemental confidential listening. Also, with a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and a Ba (Hons) in teaching, along with many CPD certificates, I bring a dynamic and refreshing approach where you can feel confident in a strong academic framework.
Together, we will create a safe space where you can explore your feelings and experiences with trust and understanding, and where I will support you on the journey towards discovering your strengths, confidence and self-awareness and where you will find the empowering you need to believe in yourself and become the creator of the life you have always wanted.
Practice description
My counselling room in Harpenden is located at my home address on Glemsford Drive, just a 20-min walk from the train station.
The peaceful setting offers a comfortable and private space for our sessions.
Individual therapy.
During short-term therapy (6-10 sessions) I use CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy). If I feel that you may benefit from some additional techniques, I may use tools from attachment theory, short-term psychodynamic therapy (DIT), trauma processing interventions and person-lead tools. This therapeutic space is usually quite dynamic and productive, using evidence-based interventions for therapy, parent support & coaching.
Open-ended therapy provides an additional opportunity to use the long-term psychodynamic approach. This method allows clients to delve into the origins of their current distress by exploring unconscious processes and childhood experiences. Through this deep exploration, we can gain a better understanding of how past events have shaped present behaviours and emotions, paving the way for meaningful healing and personal growth.
Couples Therapy
While in a relationship it can be easy to fall into a trap of not listening to the other person, or not communicating our needs clearly. Sometimes talking to someone objectively, with no connection to yourself or your partner, is all it takes for you to gain perspective. What couples counselling offers is the chance to speak to someone with no preconceived notions of who you are as a couple, with the expertise of skilled training behind them to guide you through your concerns.
My aim is to facilitate change and bring about a resolution by helping you both communicate more effectively and reach your own conclusions under professional guidance.
Whilst couples therapy is ideally suited to couples attending the sessions together, sometimes one partner is reluctant to attend, so you can look to speak to me on your own, to begin with. And then you may find that your partner may be willing to join you
My first session
Feel free to contact me by phone or email, I will respond to you within 24 hours. We can then arrange a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation to discuss your needs and book an initial appointment.
During the initial appointment which will last 50 min we will discuss what you need me to support you with and how I can help you. We will think together about what you would like to achieve with the help of therapy and which approach will be more suitable for your needs.
You may want to see me once a week, or if you need some extra support then sometimes twice-a-week sessions could be beneficial.
