Therapist - Edinburgh

Edinburgh EH6
07789310709
Sessions from £65.00

Features

Availability

I offer sessions, in person from my therapy room in Edinburgh, online and over the phone, Tuesday's and Wednesday's between 10am - 6:20pm and Thursday's 10am - 5:20pm.

About me and my therapy practice

I specialise in working individually with clients, either face to face, online or over the phone. I'm continually refreshing my professional skills and knowledge in this area.

I'm pleased to offer a confidential, professional and warm space for you to unpack whatever's on your mind. Anxiety, depression, loss and trauma are some of the main areas I have experience of working with people who've found therapy useful.

Clients I’ve worked with tell me they've also found therapy helpful if they’re experiencing unexpected mood swings, their sleeping patterns are off, or if they're looking for an alternative to drugs or alcohol to cope with issues in their lives.

I've worked with clients who've found it useful to use some of our sessions to process events from their past or present, distinguish helpful and unhelpful themes and patterns in their lives, to increase their self awareness, begin to feel as well as think, develop their capacity to reflect and to regulate their emotions.

Training and qualifications

  • Introduction to Schema Therapy (2021)
  • Accredited member (MBACP (Accred)) of the BACP
  • Trauma Enhanced Practice Levels 2 and 3 (2019)
  • Corporate Mental Health Champion. In 2018 I worked for the Managing Agent of the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland. Alongside my administration role I set up an internal Mental Health Champion service for staff, this is a role I still hold and offer.
  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh (2017). This was focused on the Person Centred approach and Psychodynamic perspective.
  • COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills (2013)
  • Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked in corporate investment and banking organisations, having completed a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Business Administration (2007).

Practice description

I’m happy to work with almost any issue and have experience of working with a wide range of clients over the age of 18.

Clients tell me it can be hugely valuable to talk about their problems with close friends and family members, however sometimes the people around them just aren't able to provide the help they need. That's why client's come to me, as a qualified and reliable professional, I'll listen to you and help you to understand yourself better, so you can make positive changes in your life.

Trauma

I have experience of working with people who are affected by trauma. I hold awareness that an event, a series of events or a set of circumstances which are experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally hurtful, harmful or life threatening can be termed as trauma. Some examples include being bullied, abused or neglected and experiencing loss, violence or judgement.

How I work/Modality

As qualified and accredited professional, I use the Person Centred therapeutic conditions of empathy, acceptance and unconditional positive regard while listening to clients and Psychodynamic therapeutic interventions to understand the roots and formation of an individuals psychological processes.

Many of my clients have felt a change within the first 6 to 12 sessions and some choose to commit to mid, longer term or open ended therapy.

Experience

  • Psychotherapist at Wellspring, a charity in Leith, Edinburgh (2017-2022), which is a leading centre for the provision of affordable high quality psychotherapy & counselling.
  • Telephone Counsellor for Trauma Counselling Line Scotland (2018-2022), which is a free service provided by Health in Mind, a charity promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland.
  • Volunteer Counsellor at The PF Counselling Service (2015), a charity located in Morningside, Edinburgh.
  • Volunteer Call Taker for ParentLine, Scotland’s National Children’s Charity helpline (2013), providing advice for anyone caring for or concerned about a child.

My first session

I ask each client to complete a self-referral form in advance of an initial session and to consider what they're looking for from counselling and/or psychotherapy. We would talk about this in our first session.

The first session gives us a chance to consider whether therapy is right for you before continuing. It's also an opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work and for us to get a feel for how we work together.

We can talk about the number of sessions which feel right for you or you can take some time after the initial session to reflect on if you'd like to go ahead with more sessions or not.

If we both decide to go ahead with more sessions, I've found meeting for around 6 regular weekly sessions to begin with can be helpful to build up the flow and continuity of the therapeutic work. We'd both hold your goals in mind and review around every 6 sessions, to reflect on the progress and direction of our sessions.

You can enquire about an initial session by email, phone or by completing the contact form on this site or my website. In advance of meeting, I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.
