My private practice is on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I offer sessions in the morning and early afternoon. I then take a break and after that start evening sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced counsellor working with individuals and couples. I have been working in the field of mental health since 2001. My work began in Bristol where I worked as a Youth Worker in a multi agency work environment supporting young people's wellbeing and mental health. I also spent a number of years as a Community Worker focusing on projects that enabled marginalised communities to access healthy and affordable food. I moved to Devon in 2008 where I continued with and completed my training as a Counsellor.

In my private practice I offer both long and short term counselling (I also offer separated parent mediation).

I also work as a counsellor at a Community Centre near Plymouth for people in the area who are referred by NHS GPs, Social Prescribers and Community Workers.

My approach is warm and friendly and I aim to create a safe, trusting and confidential space so you feel comfortable exploring thoughts and feelings, expressing your emotions, and talking about experiences. By reconnecting with your inner-self the hope is you can gain insight and realise what truly matters to you and understand what you need.

Attunement is one of the essentials in my practice. For me this means to tune into whoever I am sitting with and truly hearing them. To understand their perspective of the world. To listen with empathy, openness and curiosity .

In my experience once sessions are established exploring the root or origin of an issue can be extremely helpful. I often use Genograms and timelines to enable this.

I am a person centred counsellor so I hope you will feel understood by me and most importantly gain insight and understanding of yourself.

Practice description

I aim to make my practice accessible to all.

I can adjust light to suit; please let me know if you would like the room darker or lighter.

I can adjust the temperature of the room so you can let me know how warm or cool you need to be.

We can have the windows open or closed.

My practice is in the countryside so occasionally a loud tractor may pass by on the road.

I ask clients not to wear perfumes or aftershaves.

If climbing stairs is not possible please let me know in advance and I can offer sessions in an alternative room.

There is a toilet on the ground floor.

There is plenty of parking and a place to wait.

If you have a invisible or visible condition or impairment that you would like me to know about please do tell me. Also do suggest how I can accommodate any additional needs.

If you are a neurodivergent person you are welcome to let me know if you have any specialised needs that would help you feel welcomed, comfortable and relaxed.

My practice room is spacious and light with views out of the windows of the sky, of trees and a field. I sit on a chair and there is a large and very comfortable sofa for you.

If our sessions are online or on the telephone I will seated at the desk in my practice room.

I have experience in working with issues around gender and sexuality, relationship diversity (polyamory, non-monogamy). I aim to provide a practice that is welcoming for LGBTQQIAAP clients and clients from all backgrounds. I have awareness, insight and experience of oppressive social systems - systems that discriminate because of mental health conditions , physical health conditions, class, race, religion, beliefs, ability, gender and sexuality.

I reflect on my practice and aim to bring awareness to myself of any unconscious bias that I have.

I value professionalism and take confidentiality very seriously. I regularly undertake training/CPD.

I have had a number of years of personal therapy and have practice supervision twice a month.

My first session

It maybe useful to know that before booking the first session you are very welcome to 'meet me' first so we can talk through your particular circumstance or issues so I can make some suggestions on how we may work together.

It is also an opportunity for you to check I am the 'right' counsellor for you .  I usually suggest either a telephone call or online video call of around 15-20 minute.
