I have a welcoming, comfortable therapy space attached to my home and I normally work weekdays and some evenings up until 8 pm.  I do not work weekends.

I can also work with you online via Teams/Zoom or over the telephone.

I am happy to have an initial chat to discuss issues before committing to booking therapy sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

I strive to be an approachable, warm and accepting counsellor who can offer you a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space to talk about whatever it is that is troubling you.  The way that I work follows the humanistic tradition, and whilst I occasionally draw from psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural approaches, I do so from a philosophically person centered standpoint. The most important aspects are that the counselling is guided by you, the client, and that I facilitate a therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor built on mutual respect, trust, and clear boundaries.

I firmly subscribe to the belief that, in order to be psychologically healthy - to be fully human - is to be in relationship with others. In my experience, psychological problems can arise from relationship failure i.e. the cumulative experience of relational needs not being met.

I qualified as a counsellor in 2017 and have an additional Level 6 specialist qualification in working with children and young people, and have accumulated valuable experience working in a range of settings including primary, secondary and further/higher education with individuals, parents and staff from diverse cultural and neurodiverse backgrounds.

I also work with clients who want help with their relationships either as a couple, or singularly with a specific relationship in mind. I can also help clients who have decided to separate to do so amicably. I will tailor the sessions to your unique situation and help you find clarity if you are unsure.

Practice description

I work Integratively, but underlying my theoretical approach is a belief in autonomy and the tendency towards growth and the possibility of change.

As a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor, I am a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and I abide by their Ethical Framework.

I am committed to providing an anti-discriminatory service. I aim to ensure that this practice is present in all our work together.

After you contact me, I will arrange a consultation between us to establish whether I am the right therapist for you and to understand a little bit more about your difficulties.

To get the most out of your counselling, sessions should be regular, once a week preferably, for an open ended period. However, a more short term approach can be agreed upon at our initial meeting.

My first session

Usually I meet clients for an initial session where we find out a bit more about each other before starting counselling.  It's important that you feel I'm the right counsellor for you and that you know what to expect.

For couple work, a comprehensive history of your difficulties is taken at the first session.  This forms part of our work, and is often beneficial enough in itself.  A working process will be shared with you once this has been completed, and you may be asked to undertake between-session exercises and tasks, bringing in the behavioural aspect to the work.

Clients normally find a review of the working relationship at around the 3, 6 and 12 session stages allows them to reflect upon how the therapy is working out for them.
