About me and my therapy practice
I work with children aged 4 - 12 using creative art, and play therapy as well as traditional talking therapy and EMDR with adolescents and adults. Additionally, I offer parenting support sessions for children that are too young to engage in therapy or whose behaviour is difficult to manage.
Some people benefit from walk-and-talk sessions whereby we conduct the therapy whilst enjoying the beauty that Kingston has to offer.
I have worked with many issues from gender and sexuality to domestic violence, self harm, anxiety and depression.
I don’t believe that there is one method of psychotherapy that suits everyone. I believe in adapting my way of working for each client I meet.
You may feel that you want to work short-term on a specific aspect of your life. You may feel that you want to take time to look back on your early life experiences or you may not know where to start or where you are going. Whatever your situation is, I will do my best to see the world as you do and, where possible, offer you an alternative perspective.
Often we get lost in diagnostic terms when often to issue is just that you feel sad and need a space to speak freely and gain an understanding of where you are and where you might be able to go.
When working with children I follow a similar, child led session using various mediums such as sand tray, paints and drawing. Children have an innate ability to process through play and I do my best to facilitate this. Please keep in mind that some family work is often required.
I'm happy to offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to address any queries.
Practice description
My practice is a small cabin at the bottom of my garden, it is quiet and private and very cosy!
My first session
In our first session I may ask some questions but, essentially, it is always up to the client where we start. You may arrive with a specific concern but not feel comfortable to start discussing this with a relative stranger!
We will work at your pace and this means you are free to discuss the issues that have brought you to therapy when it feels right to you.
Often there may be silences, in this time, it is important that you see what comes to mind as opposed to me asking questions and therefore guiding the session.
I work with children in a similar way, however we will be using various art and play therapy mediums to facilitate processing of difficult experiences and emotions.
