About me and my therapy practice
Every one of us at times face challenges and dilemmas that can leave us confused. If you feel that you are ready to make changes, whatever it is that you are facing at this time, there is a good chance that counselling may help you. I am a qualified integrative counsellor.
I use an integrative approach using different theories that include the main forces in psychology of Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamics. This means I combine different techniques and interventions to create the most effective therapy for your needs. This may include mindfulness, guided visualisations and creative counselling.
My aim is to empower you to help you reduce confusion and enable you to cope with challenges and make positive changes in your unhelpful or unhealthy patterns of behaviour in a safe, confidential and respectful environment, for you to be able to explore any issues, emotions within a safe therapeutic relationship to discuss, whatever is important to you at this time.
The therapeutic experience can either be short, goal focused or open ended. Each person has different needs and goals, we can discuss what you would like to achieve. By offering a safe, confidential space to work within for the 50 minute sessions each week.
My aim is to build a therapeutic relationship with you so we are able to explore any issue that may arise for you within your time in counselling offering the tools to empower you to help yourself. I focus on helping you explore feelings and emotions that are often related to your experiences, allowing you to reflect on what is happening to you and to consider alternative ways of doing things, or thinking styles. I help you to view things from different perspectives. This can lead to an increased sense of awareness, that can be invaluable if you want to bring about effective change.
Practice description
All sessions are offered are a therapeutic hour of 50 minutes no matter what medium suits your needs of face to face based within my office at Fairkytes Arts Center, Walk and talk, Telephone and online (Zoom) appointments.
Sessions can take place weekly, bi-weekly or as and when required, I offer you the choice and this can change as your needs may change as we work together.
My first session
I understand how daunting it can feel to contact a counsellor when you feel confused and overwhelmed. This is why I offer you a free 30 minutes telephone consultation for you to get to know how I work and for you to tell me a little about what is going on for you at the moment and for you to be able to ask any questions you may have. This can help us to work out if I am the right counsellor for your needs.
To get the best out of counselling, you need to feel comfortable with your counsellor. After all, counselling is an investment in you and you deserve to choose someone that suits you, there is no obligation or pressure to book an appointment.
Once your first session is booked and I will send you the therapeutic contract and assessment to complete before our first appointment together so you have the time to have a read and fill in the details in your own time, to take off the pressure of filling it in within our time together.
Within our first session we will talk about what has brought you to come to counselling and we will talk about how we will work together and this will develop as we continue on your counselling journey together. Sometimes the first session can feel scary and worrying as you may not know what to expect. I take the lead from you and we go at your pace. Your comfort and needs are my priority as we work together and I understand how draughting it can feel talking about things that you haven't been able to talk about with your loved ones.
