Hello, my name is Emma Furr MA MBACP (Accred). I am an experienced, qualified and registered counsellor and psychotherapist working full time in private practice online and face-to-face in the Surbiton area.
Counselling and psychotherapy can provide a safe, confidential, supportive space for you to bring any problems you are having and explore difficult thoughts and feelings. It can sometimes be challenging to find the right counsellor and psychotherapist, but I will tell you a little bit about how I work and what I believe in, and then if you would like a telephone chat before you decide to book to see me, you are very welcome.
Being an integrative psychotherapist, I seek to put the individual client first and foremost, whilst also being able to draw on a number of different approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, relational and embodied psychotherapy. I use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) whenever it is appropriate.
I work with individuals, aged over 18, and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.
I have worked with a broad range of issues, most recently with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust offering brief psychodynamic therapy; Kingston Women's Centre, offering long term integrative psychotherapy; and The Mulberry Centre offering individual counselling to patients, their carers, and those bereaved through cancer. I have also worked as an Anxiety UK approved therapist, trained to work with anxiety disorders.
Practice description
I currently provide psychotherapy sessions via video and over the telephone from my base in Thames Ditton, or face-to face at Therapy Spaces in Surbiton. Therapy sessions provide you with understanding, support, calm, and a safe space to explore your anxieties.
My first session
I believe that a good relationship between therapist and client has a big impact on the effectiveness of therapy, so the initial consultation is to see if working together feels right for both of us. This gives you a chance to find out more about how I work and whether I am the right fit for you, and me a chance to get a sense of what you are looking for from psychotherapy and whether I can support you with that.Types of therapy
Brief therapy, CBT, Existential, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Psychodynamic, Relational
Clients I work with
Adults, Couples, EAP, Older adults, Organisations, Trainees
How I deliver therapy
Email therapy, Long term sessions, Long-term face-to-face work, Online therapy, Outdoor therapy, Short term sessions, Short-term face-to-face work, Telephone therapy, Text therapy, Time-limited
