About me and my therapy practice
Welcome!
It can be such a step to reach out for help, picking up the phone and start counselling or therapy. Sometimes it's difficult to know when to ask for help. I believe that no-one should have to struggle alone. There is hope to recover, hope for feeling better, hope to get out of a place of feeling stuck.
With 17+ years experience I provide counselling and trauma therapy in a safe way for young people and adults who may be struggling. I find it important that we work in a pace that suits you, rather than going too quickly (or too slow). I am fully accredited by the BACP's (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), I carry Senior Professional Accreditation with the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society) and I am accredited with EMDR UK (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This means that I abide by their Ethical Frameworks, to ensure we are both safe.
I am experienced and trained in providing one-to-one integrative counselling and psychotherapy, as well as trauma therapy. This includes working with Humanistic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the Rewind-Technique, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1 and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1. We can find a way of working that feels comfortable for you.
I also deliver a range of counselling training and supervision for trainee counsellors and experienced qualified counsellors and therapists. I am a Clinical Lead for the Children's Society for the division Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychological Therapies and Clinical Supervision. I run a NCPS Quality Checked Foundation Diploma - Therapeutic Safety in Trauma in Southend and Online. If you are a professional who is interested in partaking, please contact me!
Practice description
The Beech Practice Ltd. is a local practice based in Rochford - Essex. I see young people (15 years+) and adults for one-to-one counselling and trauma therapy who are experiencing a range of difficulties. I do not provide relationship or family counselling.
As a psychotherapist and counsellor I am pretty down to earth. This may be partially my Dutch heritage, as well as my personality. It means that you can talk about the big and small things that are going on for you, with hopefully little shame.
If you have any questions about counselling or 1:1, please don't hesitate to contact me.
My first session
I believe it is very important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor or therapist. We can therefore use a first session to get to know each other better, and to spend some time figuring out how counselling or trauma therapy might be helpful for you. We will for instance look at what is going on for you. What are the struggles? What is creating the difficulties? Have you ever experienced trauma (though we will keep this topic very safe by not going in-depth)? But we will also look at what is going well for you. What are you strengths? Who supports you? What gives you energy?
Together we can then figure out what the best way forward is and to make sure that I (or my team) are the right fit for you. The first session can take place face-to-face, over the phone or online. For more information, please have a look on www.thebeechpractice.co.uk or contact me on 075757 08865 or info@thebeechpractice.co.uk.

About me and my therapy practice
Trauma Training 1 - An Introduction for Professionals &
Trauma Training 2 - Professionals with Experience
This training serves as a first introduction for professionals who might work with clients who have experienced trauma.
This training will cover the following:
- Concept of trauma and PTSD
- An introduction to Polyvagal theory
- 5 survival responses
- Post-Trauma symptoms
- Grounding techniques
- Being or becoming a safe practitioner
The extended training will cover the above and adds working with polyvagal theory, moral, body-work and building a trauma-informed service.
Supporting Clients Through Loss and Grief
This training will explore some of your own views around grief and explores how to (creatively) work with grief in children, young people and adults. We will cover several theoretical models, including Worden's 4 tasks and Kubler-Ross.
Working with "Another Language": Using Playmobil Figures in Therapy
‘Another Language’ was originally developed in the Netherlands by Marleen Diekmann and called ‘Een taal erbij’. The method is based on both Transactional Analysis, as well as Contextual Therapy and aims to visualise the internal and external reality of the client by using Playmobil figures. The figures can represent different people, or parts of the self.
Suicide and Self-Harm
This one-day face-to-face training is a very “hands-on” training. Its experiential nature will allow you to gain some actual experience in how to safely navigate the complexities of a session where a client discloses they are experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Please contact me for more information.

About me and my therapy practice
I provide one-to-one Trauma-Informed Supervision (also known as TIS) for both student counsellors and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. Supervision provides a safe place for you to talk through your client work, any ethical dilemma's you might face, theoretical questions that might come up, organisations struggles, your own personal journey in counselling, or anything else related to the field of counselling.
With the corona virus going round the United Kingdom, I now also offer supervision online.
I work by the seven-eyed model, as originally designed by Hawkins and Shohet, which looks at:
- Looking at the client
- Interventions with the client
- Client-therapist relationship
- Therapist's Process
- Therapist - Supervisor relationship
- Supervisor's Process
- Wider context
My reduced rates for supervisees within the boroughs of Southend, Rochford and Castlepoint, are:
£75 for 1.5 hours one-to-one supervision
£65 for 1 hour of supervision
The regular rates for anyone living elsewhere in the United Kingdom are:
£80 for 1.5 hours one-to-one supervision for qualified counsellors and £65 for 1 hour of supervision.
