About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and with my knowledge and experience I can provide a warm, safe environment and an approach that is simple and down to earth.
I come from an earlier career in the travel industry which has given me a significant insight in to different cultures and religions, and has allowed me to gain a broad experience of life and it's demands. This I feel is important in order to engage with this fast, and sometimes chaotic, modern world we live in.
As a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist, this means together we will explore your past experiences and how they affect your relationship to, and experience of the present. Many of our thoughts are deep rooted in to our minds which have yet to be processed. It's about making the unconscious conscious, with the goal of breaking down the bonds of the past in order to live more fully in the present.
By working this way allows you to discover the source of the problem that you are encountering. This exploration can be a journey of self discovery, but a journey that doesn't need to be taken alone. I will offer empathy whilst being non-judgemental in a warm friendly manner, and an approach that is simple and down to earth.
I also work using the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approach. This method will support the Pyschodynamic work stated above, and in a a collaborative way, we would explore your behaviour, emotions and feelings and how they are interpreted by your own thoughts. We would make aware of any dysfunctional or negative thoughts, and unlearn these ways of thinking to more rational and positive cognitive methods.
My first session
The first session is a consultation/assessment to go over your concerns, so I can get a better idea as to the best way we can work together in our session.
At the beginning of our first session, to avoid you being put in an uncomfortable position of having to talk as soon as you enter the room, I will make you aware about my working method, confidentiality, and the format of the sessions.
Towards the end of the first session, I will also explain about my different types of approaches to the therapy work, and the therapeutic relationship.
