About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel alone in what you are going through?
Trauma and overwhelm can rob us of our ability to fully engage in the present and look confidently into the future. Our response to this can leave us feeling painfully alone.
What makes today a struggle often has its roots in the past. I work with adults and young people to make sense of how and why they experience their lives as they do. With this increased awareness, together, we can start the exciting journey of compassionately addressing your unmet needs, revealing a clearer path ahead.
I am based in the centre of Haywards Heath and offer a free initial meeting to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you.
Client written testimonials:
- "These sessions have been a blessing that I will cherish forever."
- "Thank you for your understanding, kindness and caring."
I work with a range of issues:
- Anxiety, depression and low mood
- Childhood and more recent trauma
- Loss and bereavement
- Issues of prescribed drug dependence and withdrawal
- Relationship, parenting and family issues
- Sexuality and gender identity
- Low self esteem and self confidence
- Making sense of and adapting to change
- Work issues, life purpose and direction
Often adults and young people (aged 13+) I work with want to move beyond difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours and counselling offers us the opportunity to work together with effective methods to bring about change.
Alongside my private practice I am a Designated Safeguarding Officer for a local charity, training and supervising their practitioners in providing 1:1 emotional listening support in schools.
Practice description
My theoretical perspective is Humanistic, believing that with the right support we have the ability to fulfil our potential: to be open, present, trusting, creative and fulfilled. Being Integrative enables me to draw from a range of approaches to suit your unique needs and preferences. These approaches include Person Centred: to help you reconnect with your inner values and sense of self worth. Gestalt: to increase understanding of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Transactional Analysis: to help promote personal growth and change through the way you relate and communicate with others.
Whilst we will initially look at your current day to day experience we may also explore your past and the ways in which it informs, both helping and hindering, your life today and expectations for the future. Although my approach is predominantly 'talking therapy', creative approaches can also be helpful, such as sand tray and art work. Also body awareness and breath-work. These may include coping techniques/skills for use outside of sessions. When I think an additional approach might be helpful it will be offered as an invitation. Our work together will be a collaborative process, keeping your preferences very much in mind throughout.
My first session
"We are made through relationship, wounded through relationship...it makes sense therefore that we are healed through relationship"
- John Welwood
Extensive research has shown that, regardless of approach, it is human connection and acceptance that make therapy productive, so our relationship will be key to you feeling safe and supported. It is for this reason that I recommend an initial 20 minute meeting, offered free of charge. This time together will help you decide if I am the right therapist for you, whilst I ensure that I have appropriate training and competence to support you.
I offer long, open ended and short-term counselling. Sessions are weekly and can be in person, online (via Zoom) or telephone.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to arrange an initial meeting via one of these methods.
