About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Karen and I have over 18 years of counselling experience. I specialise in working with complex trauma, abuse, (sexual, physical, and emotional) and eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating, etc). I also have extensive experience in working with anxiety, depression, addiction, attachment, and relationship issues, as well as the everyday issues many people struggle with, ranging from phobias to self-harm, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts.

Further training in both the fields of EMDR and CBT has enhanced and progressed my skills and ability to work more effectively with the areas listed above.

Practice description

I have worked in a variety of settings, including charities, counselling agencies and private practice. I also have a comprehensive and varied range of qualifications and expertise in different areas of therapy/counselling.

As an accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) I follow their ethical guidelines of practice. I also have enhanced clearance from Access NI to work with both young people, and vulnerable adults.

In a supportive setting, counselling can bring about a new perspective that can be empowering, and provide greater self-awareness, enabling you to make the right choices for you. I strongly believe that therapy can be hugely beneficial, healing, and transformative and I will do my utmost to build an empathic environment in which I connect with you in a trusting, genuine and non-judgmental manner. The therapeutic relationship is central to successful therapy, but it is you, and only you, who holds the key to your future.

My first session

The first session for everyone is an initial assessment where clients meet the therapist to discuss expectations and establish what type of therapy or therapies may be best suited to the client's specific needs.  Clients will also have completed relevant questionnaire prior to the assessment appointment.
