About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Integrative Relational Counsellor and EMDR therapist; a registered member of BACP, EMDR Association UK and BICA. Providing confidential and professional Counselling, I have attended additional training in Trauma, Infertility, Perinatal Mental Health, CBT-T, Rewind Technique, DBT Essential Skills, and Clinical Supervision.
I have over 18 years experienced of counselling clients in different settings, presenting with a range of difficulties. For the past 9 years I have worked as Counsellor for the NHS, primary mental health and staff wellbeing across South Wales. I have a special interest in treating clients who have experienced Trauma, work related issues/stress, Fertility and Perinatal Mental Health
Practice description
The Relational Integrative framework, which draws from Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, along with Mindfulness and Compassion-based approaches, allows me to tailor therapy to the individual. I use a blend of therapeutic techniques that are best suited to the client's personal circumstances and specific issues.
I have a special interest in helping people recover from traumatic experiences. Many people who come for therapy have had some kind of traumatic experience. This may be a one-off event, or a series of events. I can help you understand and manage your symptoms, process the traumatic experience using a gentle approach that allows you to come to terms with what happened, at your own speed. An important part of the therapy is helping you to recognise what is happening in your body when your threat system is triggered and to learn strategies and techniques that can help restore your sense of balance and safety.
My first session
The initial counselling session offers a confidential and secure environment for you to discuss your motivations for seeking therapy and what you wish to achieve from it. We will begin with introductions and review the counselling agreement, which covers confidentiality and its boundaries. This session is a chance for us to get acquainted and determine whether we are a good fit, ensuring that I possess the appropriate skills and expertise to assist you.
