About me and my therapy practice
I work with clients who are dealing with or longing for change in their lives. Change may come through a loss or bereavement, a broken relationship or other life circumstances. Or, you may be feeling stuck and that change eludes you. We can work together to help you find the resources and support you need to meaningfully navigate your circumstances and life choices.
I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor registered with both BACP and UKCP, I am in regular supervision and continue to develop my practice through ongoing learning. I set up a private practice in 2017 to work with individual adults both in-person and (since Covid 19) online.
Some clients come for a specified number of sessions to work through particular challenges and others come knowing that they would like longer term support to work through patterns in their lives that may be holding them back and I am open to both short and long-term work.
Some areas I work with are anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss including unmourned childhood losses; the early death of a parent or sibling, the loss of home or a sense of belonging can traumatically shape our sense of self and our relationships in adulthood. You may at times feel you are not fully inhabiting your own life or your relationships are not as you hope, you may not always know how you feel in a given situation and would like some help.
I see clients on Tuesday - Saturday for online or in-person sessions, sessions are 50 minutes and are weekly. The best way to contact me is by email at jdaviescounselling@gmail.com.
Practice description
I work both online and in person, sessions are 50 minutes and are typically weekly.
I trained as an integrative transpersonal counsellor and psychotherapist which means that I draw on a number of modalities and make room for the spiritual aspects of being human, regardless of religion.
How we are in our bodies holds valuable information about our life stories, how we are in the world and in ourselves, and in sessions we might pay attention to embodied responses to inform our work. Myths, fairy tales, dreams and imagines might also lend themselves to the work.
I work with individuals, particularly but not exclusively with unexplored childhood losses, grief, midlife and feeling stuck.
A member of the London Centre of Spiritual Directors, I also work with people exploring questions of faith as well as issues related to religious experiences.
My first session
I like to arrange a brief initial telephone call (10 minutes, free of charge) or an online session (50 minutes, full fee) to see if we might work well together before booking an in-person session.
During this initial conversation, you can tell me what brings you to look into therapy at this point in your life, what troubles you. You will have an opportunity to ask me any questions and we can talk briefly about practicalities such as fees, schedules and a contract (a verbal agreement of how we intend to work together). This conversation is confidential.
