So if you would like to meet and see if working with me is right for you please get in touch with your availability and we’ll see if we can arrange a mutually suitable time.

I can also offer remote sessions should this suit your circumstances, with some flexibility out with the hours given above.

My standard practice is to offer weekly sessions at the same day and time each week, although I am happy to discuss potential alternative arrangements (e.g. fortnightly sessions, irregular sessions due to shift work / variable working patterns) to see if we can come to a suitable agreement which suits your needs and circumstances.

I offer a fee based on your income, starting at £40 for those on lower incomes, though I only have a limited number of these slots available.

My fee structure will be sent to you ahead of our initial meeting and can be discussed as per your circumstances at that session. Our agreed fee can also be reviewed should your circumstances change.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello- I’m Ainslie and I have been a practising counsellor for over ten years, operating from and living in Edinburgh.

The sessions are to be used for your benefit and I will strive to work with you on whatever seems most important or relevant to you, whatever is on your mind really.

I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable to engage with the issues that have brought you to counselling and to help support you work through those issues in a way that feels right for you.

My hope would be that you feel that your effort, money and time has been well spent, and counselling has given you an experience which was not only helpful in working through the things that initially brought you to counselling, but can also be taken forward to support living a life that feels right for you once the counselling has ended.

If this sounds good to you then please get in touch and let’s see if we can arrange an initial meeting session to find out if counselling and working with myself is right for you.

Practice description

I was trained at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in November 2016, earning a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling, and obtaining my Masters two years later, earning a distinction in both. My training was delivered in what is called the ‘dialogue’ between Person-Centred theory and Psychodynamic theory – I find both exciting and useful theories in how I understand and work with people, and they also suit my curious and enthusiastic nature.

Person-Centred theory places great emphasis on working openly and non-judgmentally with people to help support them to find the solutions to issues and ways of living which best suit the unique person they are.

Psychodynamic theory suggests that our past experiences affects our present, and an important aspect of this is the role our unconscious plays in how we understand and engage with the world too.

This means I work transparently and with genuine care to help support people to make the changes they want, work through any difficulties they may have, come to understand themselves in such a way that feels insightful & useful and to treat them and their unique experiences with the respect deserve. It also means that I have a real curiosity about the life and experiences they have had and how this might currently affect them in ways which they may or may not be fully aware of.

My aim is to help those I work with live as best they can given their circumstances and unique history and should we work together you can expect that I will work to the best of my ability to provide a space and working relationship where you can get what you need out of counselling and for it to help both the issues that brought you to seek counselling and hopefully beyond this.

My first session

Essentially the first session is a chance for us to meet each other, discuss what has brought you to seek counselling and what you’re looking to get out of it, and by the end of the session decide together if it feels like a good fit for us to work with each other.

I will send you some information documents and forms to complete as best you can prior to our meeting which should help us when discussing whether counselling and working with me is the best option for you.

Should we agree that subsequent sessions would be beneficial for you, we will agree on a set amount of sessions (normally 6, although I’m happy to work to whatever is most appropriate for your circumstances). Before the last of these agreed sessions, we will discuss how you are finding counselling and working with me and we can agree to work for longer should this be appropriate.

Please be aware that you are welcome to notify me of your intention to end counselling in advance of any session(s) previously agreed and you will not be charged for any sessions which you inform me you will not be attending, provided I am given at least 24hrs notice.

I charge £55 for the initial meeting session and any subsequent sessions will be at a fee agreed at our first session, which can be reviewed if your circumstances change.
