About me and my therapy practice
I’m passionate about helping you make more of your life. I have a Masters degree (with Distinction) in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy. I counsel men, women and couples of many occupations and nationalities, inc. IT professionals, medics, artists, lawyers, professors, engineers, executives, care workers, factory and shop workers, as well as students and unemployed, the retired and expats in UK or overseas.
I also have an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate in Person-Centred Couples Counselling, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision, and a clear enhanced DBS check. I have trained in Solution-Focused therapy, though the main approach I use is Person-Centred. My PhD is in modern approaches to enlightenment.
I’ve counselled at an NHS hospital, a charity, a multi-cultural partnership and as currently in private practice.
As well as qualifications, I bring personal life experience to help you. I’m from Glastonbury, and have worked in the quarrying industry, as a solicitor and as a part-time university teacher to UK and international undergraduate and postgraduate students. All my work has involved helping people progress, and I have wide experience of people’s relationships, personal problems, struggles and conflicts. All of this feeds my enthusiasm for helping people gain power and confidence, improve themselves and change their lives in positive ways best for them.
I offer short and long term counselling and psychotherapy. You don't need a diagnosis. Counselling can help some medical conditions (inc. depression, addiction, sexual performance) and “well” people gain personal growth, better relationships, career progress or change, more happiness, meaning or purpose in life.
The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.
Practice description
I work with adults aged 18 or above.
My clients are equally men and women and cover a wide range of occupations, professions, nationalities, cultural backgrounds, and spiritual beliefs (as well as humanists, agnostics and atheists). I have for examples counselled university professors and students, qualified medical consultants and junior doctors, IT and software workers, artists, shop and warehouse workers, self employed builders, care workers, lawyers, the retired and unemployed, YouTubers, sex workers, and overseas expats.
After our initial first / assessment session, I help clients learn more about themselves, how they think and feel and why, and to make positive changes not only in how they think and feel but also in their behaviours and actions.
Everyone’s issues and journey in therapy are unique and I work in a way that is bespoke and tailored to each client. I don’t label people (e.g. as “depressed”) but will encourage you to explore and address your own unique individuality, whatever your history, and if you want to examine with you what fulfilment or improvement may be for you and how you may find more of these things. This also means that each person’s sessions are entirely bespoke and adapted to their wants and needs. Some people like to be “challenged”, some prefer mostly “support” or to find “answers”. I encourage regular feedback and reviews to make sure I am working my best for you.
The purpose of therapy is not to keep you in it for ever. We can at any time discuss your progress, easing you out of therapy, taking breaks or eventually ending your sessions.
I consider helping clients through counselling and psychotherapy a great privilege and I look forward to meeting you and sharing at least some of your journey.

About me and my therapy practice
I am committed to the person-centred approach and offer person-centred supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, and trainee counsellors.
I also offer supervision to other professionals, workers and amateur/lay people who may benefit from the reflection and self-development that supervision may offer them in their chosen work or activities.
Practice description
A little about person-centred supervision with me
A a supervisor I offer you the opportunity to develop yourself as well as your professional practice through a supportive supervisory relationship in which we can work collaboratively on whatever personal and practice issues you choose to bring.
This approach to supervision may particularly suit humanistic and person-centred counsellors and trainees although I welcome working with counsellors of other/mixed modalities as well as non-counsellors.
The majority of our time in supervision will be spent working on and exploring the personal and practice issues you want to address collaboratively as a joint venture together and in a manner very similar to being in person/centred counselling. This allows you to develop your own ways of working well with your own clients. Nevertheless, as a supervisor I also at times offer guidance from my own knowledge, experience and responsibilities to you and others.
Practicalities
Supervision sessions can be arranged for individuals and groups – fees available on request.
Supervision hours will be clock hours in duration, not 50 minute sessions as are many therapists’ therapy hours. We will meet monthly for at least 1 or 1.5 hours each month with the possibility of additional support when needed, including by telephone or online.
My qualifications and experience
I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision.
Please see my counselling profile on this website for more information about me and my other qualifications and experience.
My first session
The first supervision is very much like a first / assessment counselling session as we both will want to learn a little about each other and assess our fit.
I have a few forms and information to go through with you during this first meeting but (especially if we set the meeting up first online) this should not take long and we will each have a good amount of time to ask questions or explain how we work.
It is important from the outset that we have a clear understanding between us of how we are working together but nevertheless that understanding will be fluid and changeable rather than set in stone. Every supervisee is different and I am open, if possible, to tailoring any formal "supervision agreement" to each unique supervisee as a work in progress we can return to from time to time as, for instance, your work changes.
