About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my listing! My name is Paul, and I am an accredited BACP therapist with many years of experience. I'm in my thirties and I've worked in this field for over a decade. Throughout this time I have worked with a diverse range of complex issues, providing support and guidance to those in need.

Honestly, life can be hard and sometimes a complete mess. I think it can be very healing to sit with another person and get that stuff out in the open. I also believe that it can change and get better, and if I can be of any use in that process that I'd love to work with you and help figure things out.

The fundamentals for me are:

1) A collaborative approach: We work together as a team to figure things out. Early on, I'll ask you what you'd like to achieve from our work together, and we'll collaborate on that throughout our sessions. You are the expert on your life. I am there to guide and support you with my expertise as a therapist.

2) Creating a sense of safety: I will work conscientiously to foster an environment where you feel safe to talk more openly at a pace that you feel comfortable with.

3) Building a positive therapeutic relationship: The relationship we build together will be grounded in compassion, openness, and honesty.

The main therapeutic approach I use is called Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). This is a therapeutic approach grounded in compassionate principles such as wisdom, courage and curiosity. It combines techniques from different areas, like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness as well as evolutionary psychology, and can offer insight into human behaviour and the way we understand and interpret our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

If you are seeking a compassionate, experienced therapist to support you on your journey, Please feel free to reach out.

My first session

Choosing a therapist can feel like quite a big decision and there's not exactly a guide to tell you how to do it or what to look for.  For this reason I think an initial consultation is important for getting a sense for the individual you might choose to work with.

I offer a free 20 minute consultation so that we have a chance to talk. In this meeting I might ask some questions about what you're looking for from the work, and what has brought you to therapy.

I am happy to offer this over the phone or online. Drop me an email and we can go from there.
