About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm a fully trained counselling psychotherapist and I offer private individual therapy on an ongoing or short-term basis. I am trained in the psychodynamic method and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and use an integration of these ideas to best help you. It can be difficult to find a space to reflect and I offer a secure, non-judgemental, confidential environment, where together we can find that space for you. I am very patient and understand that taking that first step towards counselling, and beginning to make changes can be very difficult and I'll do my very best to support you. I am fully trained in online therapy, and am a professional member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO).

Practice description

I specialise in those who have experienced trauma, whether in childhood or more recently. If you have trouble maintaining successful relationships, whether emotionally or physically, things don't have to stay the same, change can happen, and therapy will help.

I work to your pace and believe we can all make the changes we wish to see, with patience and understanding for ourselves. Therapy should build confidence in your abilities and relationships but takes time - clients describe getting to know themselves for the first time, this can be difficult but ultimately rewarding. I have undertaken therapy myself over many years and believe in its restorative power. I remain in therapy to this day, in order to provide the best for my clients. I operate from a place of believing that my clients deserve the best in life, usually before they realise this themselves. It's a joy to see my clients flourish after many years, often a lifetime,  of self-critical thinking.

The therapy relationship is a place to experiment in a safe environment with someone who thinks the best of you. My aim is to help you see the best in yourself.

I use the Psychodynamic method, originating in the Psychoanalytic work of Freud, but received a dual track training including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I use a tailored combination of these methods, individualised for each client.

I work on a short-term and long-term basis - from 10-12 sessions or open ended work over a number of years, which can be transformative.

My first session

Firstly we'll have a brief chat on the phone or by email to discuss your concerns and arrange a time and day for your initial assessment. At this assessment, you will have space to talk about what has brought you to therapy and ask any questions about the process. The most important thing is that you feel confident we can work together. We will then decide together how long you'd like counselling for and agree a weekly or fortnightly appointment.  Long-term clients often reduce to once monthly, which is perfectly acceptable.
