About me and my therapy practice

Welcome, thank you for arriving on my page.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor/Psychotherapist, trauma aware. I see and honour your ability to self-direct and trust that at your core you know what direction to take and what you need to be on your unique path. I facilitate the discussion between aspects of yourself and the process of discovery that may ensue; all the while providing a genuine relationship that is radically understanding and non-judgemental.

Regardless of where we meet, and what format you request, it's my responsibility to create an environment that feels safe, accepting, and understanding. The space will be as unique as you are because it is also shaped by you. Moreover, you live within a context, which I shall fully acknowledge; including but not limited to, your culture, workplace, family and power or disempowerment.

My embodied person-centred approach, ultimately means I strive to return control to you, as such my position within the relationship isn’t to advise, rather it is a therapeutic container that can help you feel safe, understood and welcomed. To illuminate, and so shed light on your emotions, personal relationships, and situations, thus facilitating the discovery of aspects of you. Including contradicting parts and default positions. Potentially aiding long-term change by fostering continued self-understanding and a deeper connection to self.

A little on me. I am a cis female of mixed European and North African heritage, with interests in creative practice, and the nature world. I have over a decade of experience as a Counsellor, and many years as a Trainer. Though most of my learning and awareness has been through the exploration of personal, and societal challenges, and ensuing deep reflection that afforded a shift in energy, that now flows within my practice. I am EMDR, eco therapy trained - Presently a student of Psychological Trauma at Chester University.

Practice description

Most of my practice is with individuals, though I also work with couples, young people, families, supervisees and groups.

Outdoors

If you have restricted mobility, we can meet at an agreed outdoor location or walk and talk along the wooded pathways towards the shoreline.

Creative

I facilitate a creative expression of meaning through arts & sand tray. I am also happy to work with further creative expressions you have an interest in.

Experience

The counselling profession & I aligned in 2011. Since then, I have gained experience in charities, education & private practice. I also teach and work as a supervisor. I am trauma-aware, EMDR trained - presently a student of Psychological Trauma at the University of Chester.

I partake in professional development to revisit & learn more. I also work to take myself out of my bubble to meet what I am not aware of. This includes but isn’t limited to, understanding the impact of social deprivation, differing abilities, neo-conventional family structures & discrimination based on race & ethnicity. Gender, Sexuality, Relationship, Diversity (GSRD) & Neurodivergence.

Do let me know if any adjustments on Zoom, or in-room are required - I am happy to accommodate.

My first session

The Initial Session

For individuals, I offer an initial session, in-room (£30) or via phone or video link free. For couples (£35), contact me regarding any alternative programme.

If sessions are scheduled in person, meeting in the room can be helpful as this will be our continued space. The room is bright yet cosy, located on the first floor of Hamble Memorial Hall. It offers a lift, parking, disabled toilets & disabled parking. If you need adjustments, please say. Unfortunately,  presently, due to fire regulations, the room isn't accessible to wheelchair users.

Regardless of the platform of communication, it is your chance to see if therapy with me is something you'd like to pursue and if what you want can be facilitated. If we continue, we find a mutually agreeable time/day to meet, ideally regularly.

Initial/assessment session

Face-to-face (initial) - £30 (30-minute)

Walk & Talk (initial) - £30 (30-minute) in room

Couples (initial) - £35 (60 minutes)

ZOOM - Phone Call (initial) - free (30 minutes)

Planning

There is no norm to the number of sessions; however, if you want brief time-limited sessions, what you present should be aligned to a realistic time frame, as there may be ethical implications to this.  Also, we may want to re-assess if, for instance, there is an opening of a 'Pandora's Box' which may threaten some of the veils that afforded protection; or you may find you just want to spend more time unpacking what you have.

When it isn't wise to continue

If we have someone in common. You are currently experiencing something that in the present moment could be harmful for you to explore. If there is violence towards the partner you are seeking counselling with. Medical assistance. Or major limits to my understanding – as such, it could be better to refer to a colleague more informed by lived experience, or another profession.
