About me and my therapy practice
I want to meet you and offer a calm, safe place to just 'be' - away from the everyday buzz in your head.
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist who has worked with young people and families for 35 years. I have worked in schools and adoption services, and in private practice with adult counselling, and individual and family psychotherapy.
I specialise in working with children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties including for example loss, anxiety, family breakdown, neurodiverse and neurodevelopmental conditions.
Practice description
Feeling unsettled or overwhelmed by difficult feelings can make every day life really challenging. My therapy space offers calmness and acceptance to gently explore what troubles you. Sometimes we know the cause of our worries and at other times we are confused or unsure what is happening.
Talking therapies, or using art and other creative means can be vital to bring understanding and healing. Children may be unable to express their feelings verbally but through play, arts, crafts and sandtray they can come to make sense of their emotions and experiences.
I offer integrative therapy - including psychotherapy, Dyadic developmental psychotherapy, CBT, family therapy, creative and sand tray therapy, attachment therapy and therapeutic parenting - integrative means what works best for you.
My first session
Starting therapy can be scary. I endeavour to make you feel comfortable and take things at your pace. My therapy cabin is in a private location so ensured confidentiality in a calm setting surrounded by nature.
In the first session it's up to me to put you at ease and explain how I work. If it helps you are welcome to attend with a parent or friend at the first session.
Sessions are generally once weekly for 50 minutes. I don't complete assessments in the first session but this may be considered helpful later.
