About me and my therapy practice
Morgan Walker Counselling is a counselling and therapy service offering video call and telephone call appointments for adults and couples.
Thinking about and then going into therapy can be a hard decision a person or couple can make. For you to realise that things are not how you wish them to be and to want to make a change is for most, the beginning of this journey. With counselling its all about journeys, journeys towards positive growth, recovery and self-empowerment. As a counsellor I recognise the courage it takes to make these changes and I am here to help support you on your journey. I offer you a safe and confidential setting as well as being respectful and non-judgemental.
As a counsellor, I am not here to give advice, but to listen and help you question the way you look at things, the way you behave or react to situations or people and also help you to develop new strategies for dealing with your situation. As counselling sessions progress, I will get to know you, develop an understanding of your circumstances, listening to what you have to say and offer support and insight.
Practice description
I work using an integrated model of counselling. I will often use psychodynamic concepts within my work but value the influences of transactional analysis (TA), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness and person-centred approaches. The aim within these theories is to develop insight into the true nature of your difficulties and the origins of them. I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic environment for my clients, which allows you to speak with myself in a confidential way. I have the fullest commitment to offering a service which is welcoming to all backgrounds in a supportive and non-discriminatory manner. In our work together you will be speaking with somebody on a neutral level, who doesn't know you and who won’t judge you or tell you what is best for you. Counselling is about offering support and enabling you to find your own answers and solutions to your questions. I am here to help you to talk about whatever is bothering you, to work with you to understand why you feel how you do and how best to manage your experiences. If you have chosen to access our appointments by telephone please be aware that we may at times experience misunderstandings and this can be due to the lack of body language and facial expressions being present. If this happens I may ask you to clarify to me what you mean and I hope you also feel comfortable to ask me the same.
My first session
An initial counselling assessment will be offered for all of the counselling services which Morgan Walker Counselling offer. This is a space for you to meet with me and start to explore what you are currently experiencing within life and how this is impacting you. The initial counselling assessment is a 50 minute appointment, which will be used to look at the contract as well as what issues have brought you to counselling. It will also be a chance for you to see if you are happy to work with me. Choosing a counsellor is an important step and it is okay to say that you don't wish to work with me as it needs to feel right for you.
Counselling sessions are flexible, professional and unique to you. I usually will work with you weekly or fortnightly but if you feel more or even fewer sessions are needed we can look into this. I take an integrative approach to therapy which means that I explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and physical experience, focusing particularly on the links between the past and the present.
In our work together you will develop a deeper understanding of how your past relationships and experiences continue to influence and affect you. This understanding can help in the processing of thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours, enabling you to make a positive and lasting change. Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes, usually taking place once a week or fortnightly. I work with clients on an open-ended or short-term basis, both frequency and period will be discussed within the initial assessment session.
