Practice description

There are different styles of counselling and I am more towards the person centred end of the scale but work in dialogue with psychodynamic approaches, one of my core beliefs is that you are the expert in your own life.  My role is to undertstand things from your perspective and support you in your goals.

I am informed by attachment theory which helps us understand how our formative years create patterns of relating that we repeat and may not realise where it comes from.

I belive in resourcing clients - and will offer a range of resources that clients can pick and choose from depending on what resonates with them.  Examples of this are a variety of breathing exercises, visualisation techniques and anger dissapation techniques.

I also use Psychoeducation techniques - eductating about how the brain works when traumatised or overwhelmed.

I have recently added coaching skills to my skill set - as we work together we may in the beginning want to work with issues that have occured in the past that are impacting you today (using counselling) as we progress you may want to focus on goal setting or breaking habits (coaching skills)

My first session

For couples - I will send you both a form to fill in and return to me prior to our first session, as this will allow me to understand your current issue from both your perspectives.

For everyone - The first session differs from all others as to begin with I will take you through details of sessions lengths, notiication of holidays, explicit limits to confidentiality and some further details about counselling procedures and the way I work.

Once this is completed we will focus on your goals and what you hope to achieve through counselling.
