About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor who provides counselling and psychotherapy, specialising in attachment and inner child work. My approach draws on different therapies, with a focus on understanding how early experiences shape current challenges. I create a safe, supportive space for clients to explore their past and build self-awareness.
I work with adults who have grown up with emotionally unavailable or inconsistent caregivers or where parents were loving but you still felt that you shouldn't be sad or angry. Childhood experiences even ones that you feel were healthy can impact self-esteem, trust, and relationships in adulthood. My goal is to help clients see how these early experiences influence their current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
In sessions, I use a mix of psychodynamic and person-centred approaches to build a warm, understanding relationship. I also use parts work, CBT techniques, and mindfulness to help clients manage emotions, develop healthier coping skills, and find balance. Between sessions, I may suggest journaling to support reflection and growth.
Inner child work is at the heart of what I do, helping clients connect with and heal their younger, vulnerable selves. This work can bring strong emotions, but it is vital for breaking negative cycles and learning self-compassion.
Practice description
In our sessions, we start by talking about the problem you are facing, its history, and any triggers. This helps us understand what causes the issue and what keeps it going. We’ll also look at what you’ve tried in the past, what worked, and what didn’t, so we can see your patterns more clearly.
Each session begins with a quick check-in to see how your week has been and if there are any new concerns. Then, we’ll focus on the main topic for the session, whether that’s understanding current challenges, looking at thought patterns, or connecting emotions to past experiences. We’ll work together to identify unhelpful beliefs or habits and come up with new ways to manage them.
We may also use mindfulness techniques to help you stay present and calm. I’ll provide tools to help you regulate your emotions and build resilience. The goal is to help you gain understanding, develop healthier coping skills, and make lasting positive changes.
We focus on your relationship patterns, attachment styles, and how past experiences influence how you relate to others. Together, we’ll work on building confidence, improving communication skills, and creating healthier, more fulfilling connections.
If you’re a parent, we’ll also explore how your childhood experiences may affect your parenting and the relationship with your child. I’ll help you understand your triggers and provide tools for handling difficult situations, building healthier connections with your child, and setting boundaries that work for both of you.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute phone call so we can get to know each other and see how I can help. In our first session, we will do an assessment and set a clear goal for your therapy. This helps guide our work and keep us focused on what you want to achieve.
At the start, we will track your mood in terms of anxiety and depression. I may also use CORE (Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation), which is a tool that helps track your well-being and progress over time. This shows how your mood and mental health improve during therapy.
Between sessions, I might suggest journaling to help you reflect and stay connected to what we are working on. This can support you to gain more insight into your thoughts and feelings.
You can expect a safe and supportive space and a collaborative approach where we regularly check your progress together and adjust our focus to keep moving towards your goals.
