About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited member of the BACP with 17 years experience, having trained at the University of Cambridge. I provide remote online counselling and individual attended counselling in the east city centre of Cambridge, short term and long term therapy. We can discuss together which is best for you - you may not know to begin with. Therapy can last for weeks, months, or years.
I aim to be alongside you, non-judgementally, with empathy and support. It may be useful to review our work from time to time to check how things are going and to identify what is most helpful to you.
Over the years I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds who have brought issues from depression to relationships, addiction to bereavement, and spiritual issues.
Practice description
I am trained in the psychodynamic approach, but I now work integratively to enable me to respond more readily to your needs. Counselling is about helping you to become more fully yourself; it is a journey, and we can explore how best to take that road together. You will not be expected to know the answers, indeed, the words "I don't know" can often be a good starting point. Setting aside the same time each week for your sessions is a good idea because it marks that time as your time.
My consulting room is both comfortable, secluded and close to the Cambridge city centre. It is on the ground floor with a cloakroom next door and has easy access from the street. There is parking and an every 15 minute bus service close by. I also work remotely through Zoom, video calls, and phone calls.
My first session
The start of our first session will often be quite factual. I will explain about theraputic confidentiality and my cancellation policy, as well as discussing the fee including my sliding scale. This first session will be an opportunity for you to decide whether to commit to ongoing sessions. You will be free of course to stop at any time, though it's usually a good idea to plan for the ending especially if the therapy has lasted several weeks or months. I will encourage you to say what you hope to get from the sessions and be pleased to answer any questions that you may have not only in the first session but in any session. The major part of the session will then begin by you telling me about yourself and what has brought you.
