About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited psychotherapist & counsellor working with adults, couples & young people 16+. I work in private practice and volunteer for a bereavement charity.
How we relate to ourselves and to others impacts how we think, feel and function. I work to shed light on how our relationships past and present shape us and how we can get stuck repeating patterns of behaviour that no longer serve us.
Human beings are wired for connection and strong relational bonds. When these bonds are threatened, ruptured or not established in early life we find ourselves struggling to live fulfilled, meaningful lives. As challenges hit us we need strong attachments to help us cope. If we feel misunderstood or not accepted as we truly are life can be hard to navigate. Symptoms such as anxiety, self-criticism, intrusive thoughts and depression take root when we are in a vicious cycle of relating ineffectively. Personal desires, goals, aspirations and dreams get lost.
Therapy can be a liberating experience. Within a safe, neutral space you can talk and be heard without judgement. Together we'd explore what has happened in your life, where you are today and where you would like to be. I will be alongside you to help you make sense of your experience, enabling you to think and feel differently, to foster healthier relationships, manage internal conflicts, trust in your own resources and bring about change on your own terms.
I trained in an integrative approach allowing me to use a range of psychotherapeutic theories and skills to ensure I meet the individual needs of each person. The relationship between therapist and client is vital in determining positive therapeutic outcomes. I prioritise building a trusting, mutually-respectful, collaborative therapeutic relationship from which to explore whatever is troubling you. If we feel that I am not the right practitioner for you I will always seek to refer you to someone better suited to your needs.
Practice description
I offer 50-minute in-person sessions in Taunton and Bridgwater, remote sessions via Zoom and also sessions on the phone.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute consultation, which gives you a chance to get a feel for how I work, for me to get an idea of your expectations for therapy and whether I am the right therapist to meet your needs. You can then decide if you wish to continue with weekly sessions. There is no obligation. I will always do my best to signpost you to another practitioner if we feel that is best for you.
