About me and my therapy practice
With a focus on anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, depression, bereavement, loss, and expertise in addressing work-related stress within large organizations, my therapeutic approach prioritizes building trust, understanding your perspective, and fostering a strong client-counselor relationship. Utilizing a blend of dialogue, creative therapeutic techniques, and animal-assisted interventions, I aim to help you explore and navigate your challenges effectively.
Are you living in an urban environment feeling under pressure from life and work? I offer counselling sessions on-line from the comfort of your own home, enabling you to experience support without having to travel again alongside your tiring day-to-day existence.
Are you in search of an alternative therapy to navigate through the challenges of a stressful life, complex relationships, painful loss, or the burden of negative thoughts and anxiety? Experience the healing synergy of animals and nature, complemented by my professional counselling expertise and empathetic approach, guiding you on your journey to well-being.
I provide counseling and options for equine or animal-assisted therapy sessions in the serene rural surroundings of mid Devon, near Crediton. This setting serves as a peaceful retreat where I can assist you in addressing and managing your challenges.
As a BACP Registered counselor and a certified equine-facilitated psychotherapy and learning practitioner, I extend a professional and compassionate service adaptable to your preferences. Choose between traditional counseling online, or in-room, animal-assisted therapy, or opt for 'walk and talk' or outdoor therapy session in the tranquil Devon countryside, catering to those who find face-to-face conversations uncomfortable.
Practice description
My tranquil counseling space, with the comforting presence of animals, is especially helpful for those experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression. For individuals with busy lives, it provides a calming and reflective space, while those feeling lonely, hurt, or bereaved discover a warm and reparative relationship. The reassuring presence of my animals helps break down barriers, making it easier for clients to share their feelings or experiences, particularly for those who have suffered from abusive relationships.
My therapeutic approach is particularly open to meeting you gently when your feelings are tender and raw. The combination of interacting with animals and/or being outdoors can help you feel more grounded and supported engages than traditional face-to-face counselling, fostering a collaborative relationship.
Clients describe me as kind, understanding, supportive, and practical. At Awengrace Animal-assisted Therapy and Counseling, I merge the healing power of animals with my professional counseling skills to alleviate emotional pain or mental distress. Working with both dogs and horses, I leverage these animals' remarkable ability to connect with and gently reflect underlying human emotions in a non-judgmental and supportive manner. Dogs offer a calming and reassuring presence in the counseling room, aiding in building confidence and trust for clients who struggle to communicate their painful feelings.
No experience with horses is necessary as no riding is involved, just a willingness to be outdoors and a level of mobility.
My counselling room is on the ground floor of our traditional Devon Cottage and my horses are on site in the paddocks behind. You will generally need private transport to get here and we do provide a parking space outside for you.
My first session
In our first session together you will have plenty of time to tell me what is troubling you and what effect it's having on your well-being and your life.
I will give you an outline of the basis of counselling and what to expect as well as the boundaries we use as professional counsellors to ensure you get the best service and support.
Finally I'll ask you what you're hoping for from the counselling process and give you time to ask me any questions that you may have.
With a copy of my counselling contract sent to your inbox and our next session booked you then have a week to mull over what you've heard and how you feel ready for us to begin the process the following week, whether in room or on-line, with my golden retriever Purdey or my Jack Russell terrier Millie to support you or perhaps opting to meet our herd of horses, or perhaps taking a walk through the woods not far from here.
