About me and my therapy practice
I am qualified and accredited psychotherapist, EMDR therapist, and supervisor working in person-centred, psychodynamic, and existential analysis, and can offer an integration of all three. Further training post-qualification include Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, a number of approaches to mental illness and to safeguarding. I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years in total, but the last ten years has been as a counsellor and supervisor in the primary care sector. Working with charities has always been important to me, and I have worked with Marches Counselling Service since it began in 2011, currently as a supervisor and assessor. I am also trustee at The Family Place Foundation, based in Hay-on-Wye, that works to advance the psychological and emotional welfare and wellbeing of adopted and looked-after children and their families or carers impacted by early-years trauma.
I run embodied understanding, which is my private practice where I offer therapy either in-person, or by online or telephone.
Practice description
Embodied understanding is when understanding is felt as well as known. An alignment of head, heart and nervous system. You live your truth; feeling, acting and speaking in a way that makes sense to you. Cognitive intelligence is part of the picture but not the whole story; many people come to therapy because they want to feel differently.
The type of therapy I offer does not just focus on what you know, but on how you feel. When our truth and understanding of others and the world is embodied, our thoughts, feelings and behaviour feel authentic. You will feel a stronger you and act in a way that is true to yourself.
Through dialogue and exploring your current life, we can look at the influence of your past, the experiences that have shaped you, and the way your assumptions and expectations that lie out of your awareness can impact the person you are and choices you make today.
I am trained as an integrative psychotherapist, and have an advanced diploma in existential analysis. I have completed further training in EMDR, person-centred experiential (PCE-CfD), and psychodynamic approaches, including Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT). I am trained in integrative supervision and person-centred supervision.
Psychotherapy is £70 per session for a 50 minutes session, online or by telephone. The online platform I use is Zoom, and I will send you a link for our sessions ahead of time.
I also offer:
Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy - a 16-week psychodynamic package. Therapy includes: a free assessment session (50 minutes) where suitability for DIT will be established, 16 weekly sessions, and a summary letter, jointly written. £1,120
PCE-CfD (person-centred experiential counselling for depression), which is a 20-week package at a discounted rate of £1,200
My first session
When you first contact me I will arrange with you a time for us to talk, free of charge, to discuss whether I might be the right person for you and if we can work together. If we decide to go ahead with therapy I will ask you for your contact details, some brief questions to check suitability and what you would like to get from our time together. During that discussion we will arrange for when our first session might be.
Following that I will send you my terms of service to look through and the link for our session. At our first session I will talk you through what the terms of service are and what we are agreeing to.

I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years in total, but the last ten years has been as a counsellor and supervisor in the primary care sector.
I have taught and run training in counselling and psychotherapy, from diploma to teaching on counselling psychology doctorates. This including creating curricula and session plans, assessing and moderating, facilitating PPD/process groups, and managing teaching staff.
Working with charities has always been important to me, and I have worked with Marches Counselling Service since it began in 2011. I have been involved in all areas of setting up and running MCS, and I work currently as a supervisor and assessor. I am also trustee at The Family Place Foundation, based in Hay-on-Wye, that works to advance the psychological and emotional welfare and wellbeing of adopted and looked-after children and their families or carers impacted by early-years trauma.

Practice description
I offer supervision for counsellors, psychotherapists and students training in those professions. My core approaches are existential analysis, person-centred, and psychodynamic, and I draw on these in my supervision. I incorporate a blend of Proctors's model (2008) and the seven-eyed approach (Shohet and Hawkins, 2012).
I also offer Person-Centred Experiential counselling for depression (PCE-CfD) supervision, as a trained practitioner of PCE-CfD and trained supervisor in the model.
Supervision is charged at £50 per 60 minute session for those trained and experienced. For trainees supervision is charged at £60.
Supervision is usually either monthly or fortnightly.
My first session
When you contact me I shall arrange with you an agreeable time for us to meet, free of charge, to discuss whether I am the right supervisor for you and talk through the terms of service.
Following that meeting I shall send you an online link to our first supervision session.
