About me and my therapy practice
If you are in need of support and are interested in working in a unique way with horses and other animals in nature then please reach out. I work in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside with adults, adolescents, families and groups of all ages.
My work is facilitated by a long established herd of nine naturally kept horses (and a mini mule), dogs, cats and chickens. My way of working is person-centred, solution focussed and experiential. I firmly believe in the healing power of horses and the therapeutic benefits of the animal-human bond.
I also utilise storytelling and creativity in my sessions and the powerful effects of being at one with nature. Sessions are conducted in the barn with the horses, outside in the fields, by the lake or around the campfire. If you are interested in individual sessions or bringing a group for the day or for a series of days please contact me. Concessions are offered to charities.
I enjoy working with both adolescents and adults and have experience of working with people suffering from anxiety, depression, self-harming, trauma and childhood sexual abuse, low self-esteem, behavioural and relational problems and the effects of bullying.
I have particular experience of working with groups of people recovering from addiction, young people with refugee status and those at risk of becoming homeless.
I have a Master's Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling and am a Registered Member of the BACP, whose Code of Ethics I adhere to. I am a Senior Practitioner with Leading Equine Assisted Practices (LEAP) (www.leapequine.com).
Practice description
I work as an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapist which means that the therapy is conducted with horses in nature. Horses enable us to discover a unique way to think about our life and how we live it. Learning from their behaviour and interactions allows us to experience ourselves differently and learn how to live in the moment without judgement.
My first session
During the first session I provide an opportunity for clients to visit Mill Farm, meet with myself and the horses and gain a better understanding of Equine Facilitated Therapy and my way of working. This assessment session allows both clients and myself to make sure we feel comfortable working together and to plan future sessions as appropriate.
