About me and my therapy practice
I initially qualified as a Person-Centred Experiential psychotherapist/counsellor BA (Hons). Since then I have integrated other modalities into my therapeutic work such as EMDR, CBT and a qualified Clay Therapist. I have spent the most time in professional practice working for a charitable organisation who work with female, male, LGBTQIA clients, who have experienced sexual violence and domestic violence. I work in private practice I am passionate about my work and helping people who have not necessarily been victims of sexual violence but have had traumatic experiences such as car accidents, loss of a family member to suicide, work related stress from an accident or incident at work. I worked with police officers and I understand the impact of vicarious trauma when working on the front line, for those skilled workers nurses, fire fighters and ambulance staff.
Clients whom I work with may have presenting issues from various trauma such as PTSD, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, self-harm, low self-esteem, body dysphoria, eating disorders, alcohol and drug misuse and sleep problems. I work with clients who have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorders, Emotionally Unstable Personalities, ADHD and Asperger Syndrome. I have experience working with women from other ethnic backgrounds who have been trafficked, women who have experienced FGM and helped women who are seeking asylum.
I recently worked as a Crisis Worker for the NHS at Sexual Abuse Referral Centre (SARC in Manchester) and Safeplace (Merseyside), working alongside Police and the medical forensic team as the first point of engagement for victims of sexual violence. Prior to becoming a therapist, I have a back ground of work within in other areas of the NHS, such as Pain Management. I am a member of the BACP, Creative Counsellors Network as well as member of EMDR Northern Ireland & England UK.
