About me and my therapy practice

-Perhaps you think a lot?, Go round in circles?  Try to understand and keep yourself safe by going to your mind first?  We live in a culture that is addicted to mind, thought, rationale, logic and often our primary way of interacting in the world and trying to make sense of it is through our mind. This  is common and therefore seems normal. But its not healthy or healing or satisfying and is not a fully connected and alive way of living using all of ourselves

-Do you feel iike you know what to do but can't actually manage to do it?  Our bodies will largely keep reacting the same way despite what our mind learns and recalls

-Do you feel stuck with your current patterns, possible lack of progress in life or the type of support you are recieving?  Please read on....

At this point i'm either going to lose your mind or excite your body....

-Our bodies have wisdom

-Our bodies remember

-Our bodies know what to do

-Our bodies are continually trying to heal themselves emotionally and complete unfinished business from the past.

-We need to be still and quiet and stop doing and then our bodies subtle signals can be heard and recognised and acted upon

Your mind might be currently evaluating this..... Your body might benefit from an experience of this way of working and living and healing

But this connection to body is hiding in plain sight already when we say "gut feeling" or "butterflies in my stomach" or "grin and bear it" or "i just didn't like that person but can't say why"

SensoriMotor Psychotherapy is a way of working with the body and addressing long held patterns. I have studied Level 1 and this informs my approach

What is on offer?

I offer patience and understanding, in a confidential safe secure environment. Each person is an individual. We can work on a specific issue, ranging from short term work on a specific problem to longer term exploring wider issues, at a pace that is guided by you.

Practice description

Working with Couples

Being in Relationships is the most difficult thing you will ever do and its the thing we have the least training in. So the gap between expections (fairy tales and Hollywood) and Reality (Work, effort, struggle, ups and downs, good and bad) is huge.

I follow the Emotionally Focussed Model of Couples Counselling. (EFT)

A key part of this process is understanding “The Cycle” or “Pattern” or “Dance” that is co-created by you both. “The Cycle” is the default/habitual pattern the relationship/both of you fall into when under pressure (when your connection to each other is under threat). “The Cycle” is your joint enemy, not your partner.

The EFT is a semi structured model that includes reference to 1) our early attachments, 2) to how (sometimes unconscious) feelings drive behaviour, 3) has the idea of a withdrawer and pursuer (both are different ways of safeguarding the relationship) and is 4) more of a “Bottom Up” type of approach including the body (where feelings are as important as thoughts)

In order to do this we need to consider the following in your Relationship

How you process and understand emotion individually and together?

How you interact with each other?

Patterns you are aware of and patterns you may not be aware of

Why these patterns make sense/are helpful and also how these patterns could be unhelpful/don’t make sense?

How you Communicate?

How you understand and handle vulnerability?

How you and your parents interacted and what conscious and unconscious messages you picked up as a result of this?
