About me and my therapy practice
As an existential and somatic psychotherapist and psychologist with about 15 years experience, I invite you to take the opportunity to be supported by me in honestly engaging with the core of what niggles or seriously disrupts your life, with a view to making authentic and lasting transformations - individually or relationally.
My formal training in psychology and then as an integrative psychotherapist and shiatsu practitioner covered various philosophies about the human condition and how to provide effective support through life's challenges by appropriately integrating therapeutic methods. My approach, therefore, incorporates some of the following schools of thought:
Humanistic, existential-phenomenological philosophies - working with relating collaboratively at depth
Cognitive behavioural approaches - working analytically with behaviours
Existential psychodynamics - working with the existential nature of internal conflicts and paradox
Body focussed approaches - working with the body and breath to support non-verbal therapeutic processes that could have developed through pre-verbal or traumatic processes.
Nevertheless, since seeing my first client in 2010, I have worked with many people, as unique as you are; in this I have found that the best way to make my training count is to be prepared and open to meeting you as you are. Therefore, I look forward to meeting you just as you are and supporting your unique healing journey.
Practice description
I work with adults who are able to independently enter the agreement we reach for our work together, seeing individuals and up to 3 people in relationship focused sessions.
I see people for brief periods, including single-session or one-at-a-time work, and mid- to long-term therapeutic work. My work with my clients is always collaborative. This means we first agree on a structure that suits the initial goals of the therapeutic engagement and the practicalities of working together, and occasionally assess how adequate the process is.
My first session
I try to keep my initial sessions as representative of therapy with me as possible. Often, clients are able to more succinctly highlight their needs and expectations of the service when there are only minimal prerequisites to starting the process, so a representative first session allows you make an informed decision about how we can best work together.
