About me and my therapy practice
My name is Aileen and I am Person Centred Counsellor working in the Glasgow City and surrounding areas. I am also an experienced free-lance trainer and lecturer of counselling.
I am experienced at working with the following issues:
• Relationship difficulties
• Friendship difficulties
• Loss, grief, bereavement
• Loneliness and isolation
• Change and transition in life
• Anxiety and depression
• Self esteem
• Exploring LGBTQ+ identity
• Diagnosis of life changing illness
• Life transitions
My Qualifications and Memberships:
• BA in Social Sciences
• Diploma in Counselling
• Certificate in Sexual Minority Therapy
• COSCA Supervision Certificate
• GSRD (Gender Sex and Relationship Diversity) Aware Trainer
I have completed shorter CPD courses on topics such as Attachment, Autism Awareness, Deaf Awareness, and Cancer Awareness.
Since qualifying, I have spent four years working as a Counsellor for both Crossreach, Glasgow and two years with the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Manchester. Prior to my counselling career I was employed within the homeless sector and a Macmillan Cancer Support funded program.
Taking the decision to come to counselling can be a daunting and emotional one. You may have had good or bad experiences of counselling in the past or have never been before, all of which may influence your decision to engage with counselling.
From my experience, clients frequently come for counselling as they find it too difficult to speak to family, friends and partners about challenging or unsettling issues or feelings. The counselling room offers the neutral space that can allow you to talk openly, freely and without judgement.

I am also a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups)
My first session
Each counselling session is 50 minutes long. When you come for your first session, we will spend time exploring what you would like to gain from counselling and to see if we are a good match to work together.
From there we can arrange more sessions or you may need some time to think about this.
Counselling can be both a rewarding and challenging process, which tends to work best with regular attendance. You may not be sure how many sessions you might need or if counselling is for you.
Our work together maybe be long-term or short-term, all of these things might become more apparent during therapy.
