About me and my therapy practice
I am a level 7 psychotherapeutic counsellor (Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Post- Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Master of Education in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling) who is DDP informed and specialises in therapeutic work with children, adolescents, support for parents, carers and adult individuals and practitioners.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and creative, meaning that I am trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches and creative mediums, and will tailor my method to the unique needs presented by each child or parent client. The foundations of my approach are based upon person / child-centred values, whilst also utilising knowledge from dyadic developmental psychotherapy, attachment theory, child-development, trauma, neuroscience and the nervous system.
Evidence of my professional qualifications and membership is also available upon request. I am currently insured with professional liabilities insurance through Howden Insurance.
Practice description
My aim is to understand the emotional experience, of each client, whilst also providing the emotional resources which support the development of emotional regulation, resilience, emotional awareness and communication.
Sessions can be held in various ways depending upon the need of each client / family. Sometimes sessions will be on a one-to-one basis, where I will work with the young person individually (involving regular consultations with their parents / carers / school) or I will support parents or practitioners independently of their child(ren). There may be times where it might be helpful to bring their child and parent together for dyadic sessions, in order to work directly with their relationship.
My first session
For children and young people under the age of 15 years, the first session will be an intake meeting with parents, where I will gather as much information as possible, to support my understanding of the client's needs. From there we will plan our first session with the child / young person and if it feels right from there, we will book in an ongoing day and time for our sessions.
For all other ages (16+), the first session will be an intake session with yourself, and if you choose to continue from here, we will plan a regular time for us to meet each week.
