About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Liz and I am an experienced Person Centred Therapist.
I work with Children, Teenagers, Young Adults and Families in a congruent, non judgemental holistic approach.
I have worked for 13 years as a School based Therapist supporting young people and their families through a wide range of situations. At times throughout our lives events can happen that rock our beliefs, resilience and coping strategies, with therapeutic support we can work together to rebuild the areas that have become dysregulated.
Growing up, hitting puberty, coping with school, friendships and exams can be really overwhelming for many young people, I offer a warm, empathic space to explore these feelings, feel held and work towards a place of emotional healing.
I offer support for parents who are managing the emotional needs of their young people when they have become too overwhelming, understanding the complexities of holding and the need to be held at this time.
I am empathic to the complexities of leaving Education, starting your first job, studying, finishing University, becoming a parent and how dysregulating life can feel at this time. I feel that therapy at this time can ground the feelings of being overwhelmed and help to rebalance all the change that maybe occurring in your life.
Practice description
I work in a creative style, offering a play based therapy for younger clients and a creative art, story led work for teenagers or those open to explore therapy in that way. For those clients that prefer a less creative style I use talking therapy to build the relationship. There is always an option to work creatively if a client wishes too.
As a Person Centred Therapist my focus is on building the therapeutic relationship and through this to become attuned to the situation that has brought you to therapy. Offering a non Judgmental, warm, congruent , empathic space to explore your feelings, whatever age or circumstance you are facing.
My first session
When we first meet I ask for an initial assessment session, if the client is going to be your young person this is a time for me to understand more of the reasons you are exploring therapy, this is also a time for you to get to know me and ask more about the counselling process. This session is for 60 minutes.
I will then have the first session with the client, if they feel they are happy to work with me I ask for a commitment of 6 sessions after which time we have a review and discuss how it has been and if continuing with the therapy is needed.
If you are the client then we meet for the initial assessment and if you feel happy to work with me we make a commitment of 6 session with regular opportunities to review as we go along.
It is ideal to have 2 ending sessions when the time is right.
