About me and my therapy practice
How I work as a therapist
I am an Integrative Therapist which means I draw on several different disciplines (CBT, person-centred, 12 step, psychodynamic and existential) which I use according to need and according to the different stages of a client’s development.
I am also a fully qualified NARM (neuro-affective-relational-model) psychotherapist. This modality is specially designed to treat developmental (as opposed to shock) trauma. This is the drip, drip, drip effect of trauma caused by perceived or actual neglect, criticism, lack of love and verbal or, at worst, physical abuse in childhood. These deprivations caused us, as children to adapt our behaviour, often in dysfunctional ways (trying to be invisible or conversely, overly aggressive and unco-operative) in order to keep ourselves safe in a confusing and often overwhelming world. These behaviours were probably necessary when we were younger, but the problem is, they can persist into the adult world, where they are often the primary cause of relationship failure.
I will look closely with you at your choices – those you have made (those you didn’t know you made!) and those you will make. You will never be judged or criticised and hopefully you will realise you do not need to be ‘changed’ in any way. Any changes will be in your attitudes and your perceptions and these will come from you.
I realise the decision to enter (or re-enter) therapy is seldom taken lightly. It involves effort and surrender in equal measure. Fortunately old attitudes that therapy is for the weak or the mentally ill belong in the dark ages. Some people take long-term therapy as an investment in themselves even in the less desolate times, to take stock of life, have a place to think things through, to explore their motivations, resistances and fantasies – all in the hope of living a happier, more ‘successful’ life; others have a need for short-term ‘problem solving’ counselling focused on specific issues. I will always adapt to your needs.
Practice description
So... I'm Dr Prunella Gee, known as Prue.
I have been providing Psychotherapy in Camden and Islington in London since 2006.
I created Camden Therapy as a private psychotherapy practice in Camden and Islington, North London many years ago.
I offer 50-minute psychotherapy sessions in my comfortable practice where I am committed to providing the specific support and/or exploration you are looking for.
I also offer psychotherapy online - you can see information about my experience and availability below.
I have special experience providing psychotherapy for:
Anxiety
Depression (from low mood to debilitating)
Relationship issues (Individuals or couples)
Family dynamics
Addictions
Trauma
Actors and Performers
Later life Concerns
And of course… anyone who feels lonely, excluded, alienated, frustrated, stuck, put-upon, inadequate, unrecognised, rejected, misunderstood or just a bit sad – in other words, all of us, at times.
My first session
I am happy to talk at a mutually convenient time for 20 minutes, either by video call or phone for no charge as an initial introduction. You can also ask any questions you may have about me, how I work or about therapy in general. This is useful for both of us as I can hear what you are looking for and assess whether I think I can give you the best possible therapy for your needs. If I think I can't for any reason, I will refer you on. You will have the opportunity to "get a feel" for me and how I work and decide whether you think you would like to begin our work together. I do not insist on formal contracts (apart from a few very basic general agreements consistent with BACP practice) so you will be free to discuss the number of sessions as we progress. If you wish to use insurance, you will need to talk to your insurance company about how many sessions they will agree to provide.
