About me and my therapy practice
As a BACP Accredited Counsellor, I am neither directive or judgmental and encourage you to fully explore your thoughts and feelings. I am an Integrative Counsellor with my main approach being Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) however, I also draw on models from other theories such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA). I have expertise in supporting clients who have experienced physical, mental, emotional and sexual trauma. I believe an individual’s experiences are unique and therefore my focus will solely be on you and your needs.
I have over 10 years experience in supporting clients and currently provide sessions exclusively in my private practice based on King Street, Manchester. I served in the Armed Forces and worked in a front-line position in the Civil Service for a combined total of 18 years. I most recently worked for the NHS as a Trauma Focused Counsellor and have delivered group work using CBT skills. I have also worked as a Counsellor with Manchester Rape Crisis supporting female survivors of rape and/or sexual abuse.
These experiences provide me with extensive working knowledge of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Stress and Anxiety. As a Trauma Focused Counsellor, I have additional training in areas such as Dissociation, Inner Child work and using the 'Rewind' technique to manage intrusive memories and anxiety. I am also a qualified EMDR Therapist.
Practice description
I am committed to providing a safe therapeutic environment for clients. My approach does not just focus on the problem but what avenues of support and coping strategies you can use. I proactively engage in professional development that enhances my practice and ensure I am compliant with latest procedures. This ensures that I provide an ethical and professional therapeutic experience for you.
I predominantly provide sessions in person, although I am happy to discuss alternative options such as providing sessions by telephone or online using Zoom. I work with adults aged 16 and above from all backgrounds and communities.
My first session
I offer a free initial assessment which usually last 30-40 minutes. This is so that we can meet and I can understand what is bringing you to counselling. It also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have to ensure that I am the right professional for you.
