About me and my therapy practice

I run a professional and confidential counselling and psychotherapy practice based in both Guildford and Woking, Surrey. I have gained experience in working with a wide range of issues as a result of working in organisational settings, college environments and in my private practice. My practice is a generic counselling practice, however, I do specialise in working with psychological trauma (physical, sexual abuse, PTSD, C-PTSD, BPD/EUPD), and dissociative disorders including DID (Dissociative identity Disorder) and often utilise EMDR therapy into a wider psychotherapeutic approach.

I am a registered practitioner with several health insurance companies: BUPA, WPA, AXA PPP, Healix, Allianz Healthcare Worldwide, Cigna and Vitality Health. I can also provide invoices for clients to claim back fees from other healthcare providers- please check with your individual healthcare provider as each provider works differently.

As primarily a Humanistic, Integrative Psychotherapist, my aim as a clinician is to foster a working relationship and help guide you and deepen journey of self-exploration and process any unresolved experiences. I draw from non-directive therapies which put you in the driver's seat as well as using clinical judgement on offering directions for processing and, where appropriate, provide challenges or alternatives to current processing or decision making to help foster different self-learnings, management or different perspectives to provide you with different options.

I offer the standard 50 minute psychotherapy sessions. As well as 90 minute sessions and intensive 2-4hr intensive sessions for in depth trauma processing.

Practice description

Staying true to my Humanistic routes, the working relationship between us I feel is necessary for deeper healing and progress above psychological theory or technique. However, at times a more directive approach is needed for symptom management when stabilisation is needed. Helping people to process emotions, thoughts, beliefs and personal meanings within the context of the therapeutic relationship is at the core of growth and development. It forms the base of all my work whether in general counselling or more specific trauma therapy or when working with clinical diagnoses such as PTSD, BPD/EUPD, Dissociative disorders. I believe this is central to growth and change which needs to be in place for therapeutic/psychological approaches to work at the healing level underneath. As I do specialise in Trauma, I offer a phase oriented approach to trauma therapy and EMDR. This looks different person to person, however, follows this structure: Phase 1: Safety and stabilisation. Phase 2: Processing traumatic memories, or, coming to terms with traumatic memory. Phase 3: integration and moving forward. Ultimately safety is always primary with trauma work. A lack of safety is inherent in trauma and for many may feel impossible. Trauma is very broad, very subjective and can often be more about biological and psychological response to overwhelm rather than specific situations themselves. Trauma can be "Big T- Trauma", such as severe accidents,  "Small t-Trauma" is the lesser known, more common experiences which when repeated over time can actually have a more of an impact than "big T-trauma". Trauma can become more complex depending on the event/s, age of onset, whether it’s repeated or singular, relationship to abuser if there was one and is very multi-faceted which requires a lot of piecing together. Traumas can also be categorised as traumas of commission (things that happened to us) and traumas of omission (things we didn't get which we needed psychologically and developmentally)
