About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced counsellor working from private practice rooms in Guildford. My clients seek support with a variety of issues including: bereavement, grief and loss; stress, anxiety and depression; trauma and abuse; relationship and parenting difficulties; infertility; midlife; illness; and end of life. I also work with counselling students in training.

I offer a  warm, safe, confidential space, with non-judgemental support and encouragement, where you can explore your feelings. Together we can work towards getting your life on track.

How will counselling help? Counselling offers the space and time to reflect, and can be transformative. It can enable you to get in touch with and express your feelings, to 'find your voice', to make sense of your experiences, to gain awareness of your behaviour and how you relate to others, to think about things in a different way and find support and strategies that work for you. It offers the opportunity for you to feel happier, stronger and better able to cope.

My approach: My approach takes into account a client’s past experiences, and works with an understanding that difficult feelings can be repressed by our conscious minds when they are too painful to process. These buried or unconscious feelings can drive our behaviour, leading to a sense we are not really in control of our lives or are caught up in unwanted patterns of behaviour. Exploring the past alongside the present, where appropriate, helps clients develop greater self-awareness, a key part of the process.

I approach each client relationship individually, and may also draw on mindfulness, breathwork and creative exercises. Encouragement to focus on self-care and self-compassion is key.

Getting in touch:  Do get in touch for more information or to book an initial consultation. In this initial session we would identify the issues you wish to work on and the outcome you are hoping for.

Practice description

I work from comfortable private practice rooms at The Eaves Counselling and Psychology Centre in Guildford, Surrey.  (For more information and directions, visit www.theeaves.org.uk).

My first session

An initial session is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss the issues you wish to work on in therapy, the outcome you are hoping for, and the time frame that suits you (ie short-term or a more open-ended, exploratory approach). It's a time for you to ask questions, find out more about my way of working and to see if it feels the right approach for you. I will always suggest that you take some time after an initial session to think it over and then let me know whether you would like to go ahead or not. If I don't think I am the best option for you, and that another approach might be more beneficial, I will be happy to think through alternatives with you and signpost other options.

All sessions last for 50 minutes.
