About me and my therapy practice

I have been a therapist for 27 years and during this time I have acquired many skills and a great deal of experience and training in addition to my original training in a relational model (person centred + psychodynamic). I know the most important factor in helpful therapy is a good, safe, and trusting working relationship with your therapist.

One size does not fit all, and my wealth of experience and training means I can bring many skills and theoretical perspectives to tailor an approach that suits you.

As well as being an accredited counsellor I’m a trained and experienced mindfulness teacher and I will sometimes suggest mindfulness and somatic practices to help with your journey.

I have also undertaken training in working as a therapist with trauma, neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ issues. I take the approach that much difficulty arises from the way society treats difference. I continue to take Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging training to challenge my own bias and remain aware of my privilege. I have both lived and allied experience in many of these areas.

Practice description

I am warm, kind, compassion focussed, curious, creative and have a sense of humour. Whilst I offer a lot of close listening and reflecting, I also ask questions, offer perspectives and suggest activities to support you between appointments. My style is collaborative. I am very supportive, and I also encourage you to look deeper, challenge your own beliefs, patterns and become your own best support.

My first session

Our first meeting is very important. It is a conversation in which we are both deciding if we can work well together. I’ll give you time to talk and I’ll ask you questions about what has brought you to counselling, how difficulties began, how they affect you, what resources and support networks you have and what hopes you have for therapy. It’s OK if you don’t know the answers yet. You can ask me questions and decide if I seem like someone you could talk to and work with.

This first session is charged at the same rate as all sessions and will last 50 minutes. Often people feel they gained helpful, new perspectives right out of the gate.
