About me and my therapy practice

Hello and thank you for looking at my profile when there are so many of them.  I love counselling and have been qualified for 11 years.  During this time I have worked with serving police officers and civilian staff at Merseyside Police, those supported by the Victim Support Homicide Service, VI Form students and those referred by Occupational Health providers and EAPs.  I've always worked across a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, and bereavement.  'Extremely easy to talk to’….'turned things around for me’…. ’patient’….'kind’….'helped save my life’....being just some of the favourable feedback from clients.

So I wanted to tell you a little bit about me - and how I know that being a counsellor is something that was always meant for me because I have an affinity with people and being able to be ‘with’ them.  My journey started with a basic counselling course, and this was the point at which I knew that my Civil Service days were limited because it was here that I realised very quickly that being a counsellor was my calling.  Drawing on this and my life experience has given me the perfect grounding to be the best that I can be in the counselling room with my clients.

MBACP (Registered), MNCPS (Accredited), EFTi (Accredited)

I have regular supervision consistent with safe and professional practice and undertake ongoing CPD to update and improve my counselling practice.  I am fully insured and registered with the ICO.

Practice description

We are all different as human beings, experiencing different emotions, feeling different pain, needing different things….'the shoe that fits one person pinches another’....and that’s what makes us unique.  I acknowledge that uniqueness and that’s why I work with you using an integrative approach - I bring in what it is I feel you need to help you to flourish.  I think that’s really important, to feel comfortable in your own skin.  I provide that safe haven to listen to you without judgement and to work with you and what you bring.

I also offer Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) - a gentle therapy which helps to reduce emotional distress.  It works by tapping on our own acupressure points.  It can do some amazing things because it can help to remove life-limiting barriers and change the way we look at things, beliefs about ourselves that may be holding us back.  Perhaps we have all experienced that ‘imposter syndrome’ from time to time...

Sessions for either counselling or EFT are 50 minutes long and I offer a 15 minute introductory telephone call for you to decide whether you think I’m right for you.  Should you decide to contact me to discuss how we could work together, I very much look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for reading.

My first session

As I offer an initial chat over the phone we will have already covered the important parts about how we will work together - and you will already have seen the contract.  We will talk about that first to make sure you understand and are happy with everything and what to expect - and also how you might get the most benefit from our time together.  We will cover what has brought you to counselling so I can develop a sense of how best to support you.  This session will form the basis of how we work together from there and how we build rapport throughout our therapeutic relationship.
